Carrier
Review by unorthodoxkilla
"Mother Nature's Attack on Humanity!"
This game was released sometime in early 2000 by Jaleco. I have beaten it many of times and have always found it a fun survival horror adventure, that was different story wise then Resident Evil. It was going to have a remake on the PS2 or a sequel but they were canceled. :( All though it borrows from most survival horror games Carrier does do most things right. Onward to the review!
Gameplay/Control 6/10
I would say the overall control is just hair above. It really is pretty average with no real advantages over the much older Resident Evil series. But I guess you can pretty much control your character and dodge enemies and aim decent so it has that going for it. The AI is not great but is just as happy as being the same as many other survival horror games. I would say that the creatures are just Dumb and will stand there and attack repeatedly or walk towards you and attack. Those are the two main variations. Not the worst but not to strong in the gameplay department. The bosses are mostly really cool but very easy to defeat fun no less though.
Graphics 7/10
Well four years ago these graphics were top of the line. When I replayed this I really didn't get a feeling of out dated ness. The boss models were mostly cool and the creatures were very good too! I also enjoyed the aircraft carrier it was a nice dark sterile environment. I think the graphics still hold up, there is some clipping however.
Sound/music 6/10
Well this is odd the sound detection is mostly way off. You will be fighting a mutant and the gunfire and action seem removed or distant. This occurs often through the game and there really any excuse why it should be that way. The music does have some good original scores and some nice ambient background effects. I would have gave it a lower score if the music wasn't well done. The sound effects are fine though if they work. Voice acting is kind of bad and not just in a cheesy way, it's good enough if you have imagination.
Plot/Story 7/10
Overall I really like the story of a Carrier infested by this organic vegetation, and to create an utopia. It's a tale of morality in a way which I really liked except for a few lame parts here and there. I don't want to ruin anything but if you have a few bucks which is under ten and have a dc and enjoy survival horror check this out.
Aprox length
to beat the game as jack and Jessifer it took me 12 hours. I took my time and enjoyed it though.
Difficulty
Medium it's the average difficulty you will be stuck maybe at only a hand full of parts.
Overallfun 7/10
I would recommend this game to survival horror fan's that own a DreamCast. it's cheap and is a good addition to your survival collection. It's a shame that there was no sequel or remake, I would have really enjoyed seeing how that project turned out. Overall Carrier is a fun horror game that tries to approach the genre differently with a unique story. The boss battles are fun while there is a couple of really lame ones. the overall package was good then and it's still good now. Please remake this :)
