"Midway's Popular Arcade Port Doesn't Deliver"

NFL Blitz is a very popular arcade game. However, when ported over to consoles it lacks the lastability to keep me occupied in the long term. The game boasts quicker play and less rules, but this doesn't keep this game from being dull.

GRAPHICS: 8
They're pretty tight and rather detailed. Everything looks bigger and moves faster than a regular sports sim, which is exactly what Midway wanted. Did you notice that those football players are at least 15 feet tall when compared to the yard lines they stand on?

SOUND: 6
The music is heavy; the commentating is OK and sometimes weird. ((''Theeeere's the stiffy!'')) What's that supposed to mean?! The sound effects are the most interesting part. Whenever you tackle somebody there's always a bunch of taunts and junk that go flying around among the players. It's pretty funny. ((''Do you realize how STUPID you look?!'' ''I think it's broken!'')) However, all of the sound FX get repetitive and old after a couple games.

CONTROL: 8
The control is very very tight and accurate. You won't have any trouble at all moving around. Not to mention it's extremely simple, and doesn't even use all of the buttons on the standard Dreamcast controller. However, it's also too simple, as throwing and catching a pass doesn't require any skill at all, besides picking an open receiver and hitting a button.

REPLAY VALUE: 2
What replay value? Arcade games aren't made for replay value; they're made for quick games that eat your Georgies. That's why this game got old SO fast that I never want to play Blitz again as long as I live. Another annoying thing is that since the players on-field have been reduced by about 50% you and your friends are forced to play 2-on-2. Bleah. I love cooperative play.

Do NOT buy. Don't even bother renting! You won't get any more out of this game than if you played it for two games at an arcade. Save your money for something else. Got me?
