"Is This Wacky Racer Worth It?"
PenPen Tri-ice-olon is a totally whacked racer. Weirder than a clipped toenail collection ((''Look, here's Leo DiCaprio's, and over here is Bill Clinton's…'')) but not as weird as drinking Mountain Dew for breakfast. A PenPen is a penguin from outer space. You race around whacked tracks with three different racing styles: swimming, sliding, and running (hence the ''Tri'') using whacked racers, ranging from dog-penguins to sharks and octopus-women. O-kay…
GRAPHICS: 9
The graphics in this game are pretty sweet. The frame rate in one-player mode is awesome. Multi-player mode's graphics keep up amazingly well, and the frame rate doesn't slow down that much. I was very impressed with the graphics. They look straight out of a cartoon show.
SOUND: 8
The music is catchy and up-beat, but the sound effects are the best. Wait'll you here the penguin's ''Cha-cha-cha!'' It's hilarious! The other sounds such as jumping and sliding all sound pretty good too.
CONTROL: 4
This is the weak point. The controls are downright frustrating, especially in running mode. It's extremely difficult trying to jump up a staircase when your character refuses to jump when you want him to. In four-player mode, everybody often gets stuck in the same area, knocking each other over, trying to get up the stairs. Especially in one room that acts like a merry-go-round. Oh, man.
REPLAY VALUE: 4
There's a four-player mode but that's all. There are only four tracks, and they are rather short and don't have multiple paths. The game is extremely easy to beat in one-player mode, even with the erratic controls. It got old after two days. Beating different tracks and such gives you ''clothes'' you can put on your racer, but that's just kinda dumb.
OVERALL: 5
It's a very average game. Not worth the money for a buy, but maybe a rental if you like racers and want one evening of fun with three friends. This game won't last you long at all. Stay away. Sonic R is better than this.
