Resident Evil Code: Veronica
Review by Larcen Tyler
"Was it worth the wait? YES!"
I must admit, I was a bit skeptical about this game. After all, waiting almost two years for this game can make one kinda nervous! Then I got my hands on it, and I truly must admit it was worth the wait! To see what happens to Claire and Chris, you must play this.
Graphics: 10/10
Really pushing the Dreamcast to the max! Untill Shenmue comes out, RE:CV will be top contender for best graphics on Dreamcast. The characters actually move their lips in synch, and the acting is movielike! The game comes complete with your usual assortment of zombies, hunters, dogs, and bosses. All drawn in glorious detail.
Sounds: 10/10
It's not the first time I've heard someone cry in a Resident Evil game, but it sounds a heck of a lot more believable! I mean, the voices are more than B-movie cheese. Aside from Claire, who's voice really didn't need fixing, Chris has gotten his voice fixed up. As for sound effects and music, they're here too, in full glorious Dreamcast capability. Every piece of music sounds like something out of a real movie masterpiece.
Controls: 10/10
For newbies it may be a bit difficult, but for veterans, it should be second hand news, save for the fact that run and action buttons were swapped. Otherwise, the rest of the game controls just as well as the other games, if not better.
Story: 6/10
The only demerit comes from the beginning of the story. Claire is sent to a prison camp, and I do mean prison camp! I mean, look at the barracks and you'll see how all the prisoners were shaved and given the same type of clothing so they all looked the same. Then there's talk of being used as experiment subjects. How gruesome! I mean, there's even a torture chamber with a pressure chamber and a cage for dipping victims into water (probably high temperature water!) To top that off, the office right near it looks like it belonged to Josef Mengele!
Either way, though, it truly brings out the bad side of Umbrella, and shows what kind of people they are. To top it off, it gives the Redfields good reason to hate Umbrella!
Replay: 10/10
The toughest out of the series (I mean, 2 was tougher than Nemesis!) If you breezed through the first three, don't expect to breeze through this one! This one is far more difficult (and longer!) I won't spoil the surprise, but what may seem like the end isn't the end! Trust me, you'll know when it's the end!
Overall: 10/10
It's truly got ''Game of the Year'' stamped over it. So what are you waiting for? Go out and get it already!
