Marvel vs. Capcom
Review by DJellybean
"Wow!"
Man, did Capcom did a number on the game! Personally I don't own a Dreamcast, I only played this at my friend's house and it just paved the way for 2D excellence.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics were perfect nonetheless, but I'm not a fan of those vs series graphics. They just don't have the color and creativity found in the Alpha series. But they were arcade perfect, every detail was a carbon copy of the arcade.
Sound/Music: 8/10
Well once again, I'm not much of a fan of these vs music, but its pretty good. Alot of old street fighter characters like Chun-Li and Ryu have gone back to their original SF2 music, but they were remixed. The theme I really liked was that funky Megaman theme, it fit his personality and style of gameplay. The sound was pretty good and that anouncer is a bit catchy and he sounds better than the one in MSHSF.
Gameplay: 14/10
Never have I seen such control coming from a game before, besides those other Capcom fighting games of course. The Dreamcast controller was very easy to adapt to, meaning all veteran PSX controller fighters(like myself) would have little or no trouble adapting. And those people who buy a joystick, are pretty...ahem, stupid, unless of course they want the real feel of the arcade, but adapting to the new controller is not a problem, well not for me anyways. The wacky combos you can come up with are amazing, but the real problem I found was that I couldn't OTG the Rush Drill as easily as I did in the arcades, but I guess I didn't cancel fast enough. In previous games the Street Fighter characters couldn't do those flashy combos like the Marvel characters, but with Strider and Mega its a sure bet that Wolverine and Spider-Man are on a run for their money!
Replay value: 8/10
The game had alot of replay value, but like fighting games, they get boring after a few hours of play, then you just want to play them all over again. But this score is cumulative since I don't own the system or the game its hard to tell.
Overall: 10/10
I never tried the other modes in this game, the only mode I tried was versus, so its hard to tell how good this game was. But from what I've heard the 4-player mode is pretty crazy! This game was fun and true to its arcade counterpart, thanks to the technology behind the machine. But its mainly gameplay that I'm concerned about, and the graphics and sound had very little effect on the score.
