Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Review by K0LDSTeeL
"Awsome adventure game by Eidos."
Soul Reaver for the Dreamcast is one of the funnest adventure games I have ever played. It might seem like Tomb Raider all over again, but it's not. I barely ever like 3rd person adventure games (mainly because of the awful camera problems), but this is one I like. This is one of those few good titles from Eidos (next will be Metal Fatigue for PC, *drool*).
Graphics 9/10
For a first gen game, that is a very good score. Although Raziel and the enemies are low polygonal count, they manage not to pop-up or seem to fall apart (found on the PSX version). The graphics are the most cleaned up, for one thing, and they even added some special effects only found on the Dreamcast version. The animation is very fluid also, and barely any jaggies around ''smooth edges''.
Sound / Music 8/10
The sound is very nicely done, but the music, its ok, but I don't pay attetion to music too much in most games. The swinging of your reaver (once you get it) sounds just like a lightsaber. Even your walking has different sounds, like if you walk on snow, it crunches, and the dirt pats as you walk across.
Control 9/10
The control is very responsive in the game, which is a lot better than the PC (or PSX) version. The thumb stick is very comfortable to use for a game like this. The control responds directly when you hit a button (and I like that in a game).
Replay 6/10
Not a lot to do after you beat this game, which is the standard in most games. That is the only gripe I have about this game.
Challange - 8
Replay - 6
All in all, rent this game, you can beat this game in 5 days (its possible, I did). It is a nice addition to play, and quite a challenge.
