"First game to be an 3-D rts? yes First game to be a successfull rts? no"
Many games that are released in Japan only on the Dreamcast are overshadowed by Play station 2 games(Note: the first next generation system war started out as PS2 vs Dreamcast). However many Dreamcast games aren't that bad at all. In fact I would say Dreamcast would have had a chance if more Japanese only games came to America but then again that is another story. Hundred Swords is perhaps the first real time strategy game to be 3-D out there. However in America they only made a computer version of this game. This game may not be the best 3-d real time strategy game but it is still fun to play which.
Game play: The game play is very simple there are only four buildings to build: a gas mining machine, an iron mining machine, a barracks, and a head quarters. Once you lose your head quarters, you lose the game instantly. You can't build any other buildings besides those which cuts down some of the fun. However you can build many different types of units from foot soldiers to air craft transport. The only bad part about the game is that your men walk in a straight line so if there is a wall, rock or etc they will get stuck.
Graphics: The graphics isn't that bad. I would say it is pretty good for the first real time strategy game.
Music: The music isn't that bad either, its something like medieval songs with modern day instruments. The music in my own opinion is something like the tunes from Guardian Heroes for the Sega Saturn.
Length: The game is actually pretty long since it has twenty five missions to it. It also has skirmish mode.
Well I would say for the most part that this game is worth getting if you can find a copy since it is a rare game now. It's pretty fun for the most part but it can take a while to master since for the most part your men get stuck really easy. This game is also pretty cheap which is why it's also worth getting. Sega has done a pretty good job making this game but sadly not many people know about Hundred Swords.
