Well it depends on which egg it you buy and also if you use a dark character they can turn black and a hero they can turn white.

Monotone chao (chao from the black market) can't change color. Two-tone chao (chao with highlights, such as the normal one) can change color depending on whether it's dark or hero, although for most two-tones, very little change is shown if it's hero.

Chao that were swinging one way turn green when they are balanced out. A baby chao that would be a Dark type will turn green if you pet it with Sonic obsessively.

It depends on the colour of the egg, and if it is Hero, Neutral or Dark. Also, you can change its colour if you keep feeding it animals and Chaos Drives after having them went into the cocoon: For example, a Speed Neutral Chao, green in colour, if is continuously fed Green Chaos drives, will eventually end up looking like a Chao version of Sonic.

Well, if you get any chao eggs from the black market, like a blue egg, or an white egg, or any other color, the chao egg color will be that way (exept for the normal chao egg.) If you have chaos drives, if you give your chao a lot of purple chaos drives it will have a color. try geting a lot of chaos drives.

After the egg, you can't change color. But if it turns to a hero or dark it changes color somewhat. Somewhat.

Some evolutionary types are yellow ,green ,etc. I suggest you get a nuetral runing ;power chao or a sumo chao. They are awsome.

When you have a normal chao egg, (the white spotted ones, that apear when you first enter the garden), it depends on what trait they have, (hero = white, evil = black) however if you get a colored choa from the black market or from the game boy advanced version of the game then it will remain the same color no matter what

Actually, I think you CAN change their color whenever you want. All the chao i have(and i have like, 20 choa) have changed color from there original color. I believe when you give them the colorful power-ups, they slightly change color. If you give them enough, they'll change color i think.

The chao gets the color from its egg, the one you buy. You can't change it after you buy it, like if you get one from the Black Market.

But, sometimes if you mate two different color chao, you can get a "two-toned" chao, which can change color depending on what you make it, hero or dark.

It gets the colors the parents have. After it cocoons, you can't change the color.

I would halfto say for like red, green, shiny chaos, you need to buy the egg but if you get a normal chao if you raise it with like shadow it will turn black, with sonic i think it would turn blue and nuetrel it would barely change colors. But im pretty sure no much only when it evolves.

Wait... By normal chao do u mean the ones in the garden that start there or the first 400 coin egg thats white?
Other than that, theres no way to change your colour other than making a two-tone colour chao

I think that the color is the eggs color and you can't change it
