statusWhen you unlock the tiles that unlock the alternate tracks for air ride courses, it says, "Hit X or Y button on course select". But believe me, I've tried that many times and have had no success. It seems like there's automattically a small chance of the alternate music playing on a course when you start the race, but I don't know of any certain way. Sorry.
Do you mean UNLOCK or HEAR ON THE COURSE?
If you want to unlock it, you have to do the checklist.
If you want to listen to it, be sure to unplug any controllers you aren't using; they may interfere. On the course selection screen, press and hold the X or Y button UNTIL YOU BEGIN THE RACE. If you don't, the game will play whatever it pleases.
Obviously, you have to unlock it first. They intentionally made the unlocking objectives easy, so I don't know what your problem is.
