Army Men: Sarge's War
Review by winlosetie
"Medal of Honor with Toys!!!!"
I bought this game for $10 at the same time that I bought "From Russia with Love" for $40. Needless to say "Army Men: Sarges War" was a very similar game (a 3rd person shooter...with auto aim, linear environments, sniper mode, multi-player, etc.) and I thought this game was more fun and entertaining than another James Bond game.
GAME CONTROL: 9/10
Responds nicely! The auto aim works just like any other 3rd person shooter on the market. There is option to view in 1st person as well. There is a button for crouching, jumping, rolling, etc. One downside, however, is that there is no melee attack button if the bad guys get too close...but you'll have more fun shooting them anyways. I do miss the low crawl in old army men games.
GRAPHICS: 8/10
I've seen better....but this is good for a game about a kids toy! Some environments look like a person's kitchen or a child's sandbox which make for interesting environments to play through. Other environments, however, include a prisoner of war camp (complete with guard towers) and a bombed out city (reminiscent of Medal of Honor: Frontline). During a few missions, I thought I wa playing a new Medal of Honor game. The character graphics are fantastic...if you get shot in your midsection you will continue the level with a hole in your chest or if your head gets blown off, you'll continue without a head to your plastic piece.
SOUND: 6/10
Not much to the voice acting...but hey if I wanted to hear a real actor I'd have rented a movie. The sounds of the guns, tanks, etc. are pretty good but not great. The music also starts to wear on your nerves.
STORY: 10/10
Hey this is a fun story and pretty darn original from most of the shooters on the market. I'm tired of shooting people because I'm a British super agent or a WWII soldier. This is a pleasant relief from the smae ol' same ol'.
REPLAY: 8/10
You have three difficulty options, if you choose to replay the single player (I've never really found myself replaying a game though). It succeeds in bringing a fair amount of options to the multi-player.
Overall this is not a good game for the bargain price...but a great game!!! Kick Some Tan Tail Sarge!!!
