Rampage: Total Destruction
Review by Fredk
"This game is worth more than $20."
After reading all the reviews that gave the game 6, 5 and so on, I was starting to think that pre-ordering the game was a bad idea. Fortunately, I was completely wrong about that. I'm glad I did, and I wouldn't care if it cost $30 or more.
Rampage: Total Destruction has one simple goal: Destroy everything. Yes, that sounds simple. And it is. But in a good way, trust me.
You get a total of 30 monsters (Maybe more than thirty? You never know, there may be a super secret one...), and 21 of them are unlocked by finding them in buildings you destroy. And since you have to be a specific monster to find each one, only that boosts the replay value way up. Also, you have to collect four special moves for each monster, which is done by completing a challenge in any city block.
Sadly, when you've found all monsters and upgrades, there isn't much more to the game...except the bonus games! Both Rampage and Rampage: World Tour are included as bonuses in this game! However, personally, I got bored of them after playing each one once.
The game's graphics are, well, okay. I love the graphics of the intro/end scenes, though there are only two of them. But they look wonderful. In-game graphics are, as I said, okay. Nothing special, nothing bad. But I like the explosions, which are great.
The sound isn't fantastic either, but it sticks in your head for a while. Monsters make very similar sounds, which is bad. For example, why can't George the ape make some monkey-sounds? The humans - your enemies...and lunch - have some great lines. "You can't eat me, I'm a lawyer!", "Hey, I just got this shirt". After the hundredth police officer shouting the same like over and over again, it gets boring to listen to and maybe even annoying.
Overall - if you can stand the repetive speech lines - this game is awesome. Though the game screams "Hey, I'm boring!" at your face when you've found everything, it's very fun as long as it lasts, and even more fun with up to three friends. If you've got $20, go buy it even if you haven't played Rampage before, like me.
