SSX On Tour
Review by giant_flying_weasel
"Ummm...uh...yeah...snowboarders...uh...yeah...and Mario! YAY MARIO!"
This is the third SSX game I have ever played. The first I played was SSX Tricky, the second in the series. SSX 3 (obviously the third) improved on the concept of the changing outfits from SSX Tricky by making it possible to customize the set character's clothing, hats, pants, hair, faces, accessories, and even heads. Now comes SSX On Tour, where you can create a completely new character, name him anything you want, and change anything about him, from clothes, to how he gets around (snowboard or skis), to even his height, weight, skin tone, and hair (I prefer the green Mohawk). With many slopes, challenges, and tricks to ride, complete, and perform, this game is extremely fun.
STORY
10/10
It is basically the same as every other sports game. Rise to the top. Be the best. Look great while doing it.
GRAPHICS
10/10
Perfect graphics (usually) make a perfect game. This is good, as most sports games I have seen have low-end graphics (Ex. Madden Football series). The most amazing thing of the graphics, in my opinion, was getting Mario, Luigi, and Peach, who are normally in cartoonish-looking games, into environments that are realistic and beautiful. They're practically works of art, especially the Nintendo Village. Eye candy it is.
SOUND/MUSIC
10/10
I am a fan of rock music. That opening music was great. Not to say the rest of the game's sounds were complete crud, but the opening is the best. Sounds in the game really sound like the people are shredding snow big-time. Also, if you knock down one of the numerous youngsters on the slopes, they will usually grunt accordingly, along with them crashing into the snow. It is great to hear the sounds of the snowboard again.
GAMEPLAY
10/10
The series of SSX games have never failed to give good gaming delivered nicely. There are countless challenges on many different slopes, all of which are long and fun. However, some things are changed. For example, you can now completely customize your character. Also, the "Uber-tricks" of past games are now "Monster tricks." This game will not fail to amuse even the most hard-core gamers.
BUY OR RENT
It depends on if you have played any other of the games in the SSX series. If so, it is up to you. If you haven't played one yet, rent it first. Just play it.
