Disney's Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse

Review by Doctor_Wario

"Fun while it lasts."

Mickey Mouse, everyone knows him. He's a freakishly large mouse with big yellow shoes. Sounds a bit too much like a typical video game character... We knew it would happen someday, he gets another game. The question is, is it decent? In some ways, yes, here's more detail...

Story: 6/10
Here's an overview, Mickey Mouse is sleeping and a ghost comes out of his mirror and pulls him in, taking him to a magical castle inside the mirror. The ghost then breaks the mirror and hides the shards all over the castle, leaving Mickey stranded in the strange castle. Now Mickey must solve all the castle's puzzles in order to find the shards and escape the castle.

Gameplay: 8/10
It's very easy, and kids of any age can probably beat it with little or no help. But it's definitely entertaining, with many of the puzzles leading to humorous results. It's simple, easy, but still fun to play. Capcom also threw in a few of minigames to give the game a little variety. It's rarely frustrating, but sometimes a little too easy. Definitely designed with youngsters in mind.

Graphics: 7/10
Very colorful, to say the least. The environments are highly varied, ranging from spooky attics, to colorful lobbies, to giant cakes. However, the game has some jagged edges here and there, and did I mention there's some REALLY bad dancing?

Sound: 5/10
This is where the game's quality lowers a bit, the sound effects are cartoony and fit the game well, but the music isn't memorable in any way whatsoever. If only Capcom would have put in a decent soundtrack, it would have definitely scored higher in here.

Controls: 4/10
Here's something you don't see everyday, a Gamecube point-and-click adventure game! Yes I'm serious, this game is a total point and click adventure game, if you want to move up, you have to slowly move the hand to the piece of floor where you want to move. If you want to go into a door, you have to move the hand over to the door and press the action button. In my opinion, this game would work way better on a PC.

Replay Value: 1/10
Here's where the game really suffers, there's almost no replay value whatsoever! Once you've beaten the game, all you can do is play all over again, replay some of the minigames, or go back to the world and try to get the 100% alternate ending. Normally that's a good thing, but you have to beat the game 90% to get the first ending! From there, you can probably get the secret ending in about a half hour.

Overall: 6/10
The game is lots of fun while it lasts, but you can easily beat the game in one day, or two days in hard mode. And with zero replay value, this game scores pretty mediocre.

Rent or Buy?
Rent, definitely rent. Get it for a weekend rental, it only takes up a couple blocks on your memory card, and you'll have lots of fun with it for about 2 days. And it's good for all ages, so the whole family can play. But unless your state is like mine and you can buy it used for 1 buck more than it costs to rent it, it's only good for a rental.
