Second Sight
Review by BocaSE
"If you don't have this game GO GET IT NOW!"
Second Sight puts you in the shoes of John Vattic, a scientist who researches Parapsychology. You wake up in a medical facility with no memory of who you are, or how you got there. Soon after awaking you come to find you have some unique abilities such as Telekinesis, and being able to heal yourself. What comes next is a series of twists and turns that will blow you away by the end. This game was developed by the same people who made the Timesplitters series, Free Radical and Codemasters.
Gameplay
This game has a mix of sneaking and action intertwined into gameplay. Much of your time will be spent using your psychic abilities such as healing, charm, telekinesis, possession, projection, and psi attack. The psychic abilities really add a whole new level of gameplay. A lot of the time you can choose whether to go through using guns, and psi attacks to take down enemies, or to charm and sneak through the areas. There's a wide variety of guns. You can fine tune the aiming to go for headshots with the guns, though I found this to be a hindrance sometimes if you're trying to take on several enemies at once.
Score: 9/10
Sound
The voice acting in this game is very excellent. There are some characters here and there that sound a little off, but most of acting is well done. It sometimes feels like you're not playing a game, but watching a box office movie. I also enjoyed the various sound effects throughout the game. Most of it is spot on, and the sounds for your psychic abilities sound great. The music also adds to the great feel of this game.
Score: 9/10
Story
I don't know what it is about this game, but the more I played it the more I was sucked into the story. As stated above at the beginning of this review there are many twists and turns in this game, but I really don't want to ruin them for you. The narrative in this game is really brought out by the outstanding voice acting. The pacing is just right. As the story moves along you wonder if John really has lost his mind or if he's really affecting the world around him. Though don't worry those answers and more are answered as you continue through out the game.
You also play several missions in the past, six months ago, with a military operation called WinterICE. Vattic heads to Russia with a military unit to investigate a scientist, and his projects.
Score: 10/10
Graphics
The graphics look kind of like those in the Timesplitters series. The character models have a slight cartoonish look. This adds to the cut scenes by letting the characters seem more animated and alive. Some of the area graphics are about average though for console games of this generation and detracts from the score in this section. Many of the same models for items are reused over and over again like in most of today's games. Though in some areas, like in offices, it really doesn't detract from the look since most office spaces are usually almost virtually the same anyways in real life.
Score: 7/10
Replay Value
The replay value in this game is being able to go back through a level, and playing it a different way from the last time. Say you went through and snuck through the whole level; well this time you could go through and run n gun almost through the level for a different experience. There really though isn't much else to do, which hurts the score in this area
Score: 7/10
Overall
This is a great game to own, and I would highly recommend it. Though there are some minor things that hurt the score of this game, it really is an awesome game. If you're still unsure after reading some reviews to this game, then I would suggest that you at least rent it because it really is worth it, even if you play through it once.
