Freedom Fighters
Review by TheLastAvatar05
"Give me Liberty or give me....This Great Game!"
Freedom Fighters is created by the makers of Hitman, an excellent game that I recommend all of you getting in the near future. Anyway, Freedom Fighters is a "what if" type of situation of what would happen if the Soviet Union took over the entire world after World War 2? You are Chris, a small time plumber turned Resistance fighter that leads attacks on the Soviet installations all over New York City. Your goal is to liberate New York with your small bag of resistance fighters to show the world that the fight against the Soviet Union isn't over. Are you ready to take the fight to the reds?
Gameplay 8/10: Freedom Fighters has an unique command system that allows you to direct your Freedom Fighters during battle. You are enlisted with three commands, (Stand, Scout, and Defend), which is assigned to the buttons on your NGC controller. Controlling groups of Freedom Fighters is simple and easy to do. You could order one group to attack an enemy while having another defend a certain spot. Another interesting part of Freedom Fighters is it's recruitment icon on the top of the screen. Doing various tasks during the game like healing allied Freedom Fighters, blowing up a bridge, or raising the red and white stripes over an enemy compound gives you more points that allows you to recruit more Fighters to your cause.
Graphics 7/10: This game has a gritty type of feeling due to the setting it takes place. An alternate reality in which the Soviet Union took over the entire world after World War 2. Most of the fighting done is around the setting of New York City. Your Freedom Fighters fighting capabilities is pretty high considering how their mostly controlled by the AI. They know how and when to take cover while their being shot at. So it's not like your controlling various fighters that stand in the middle of the street during a battle and tries to shoot while exposed. Gun animations are a nice feature as well as destroying various check points around the city. Using grenades for instance, would send your enemies flying in the air. Real time rag doll physics is another amazing feature in this game.
Sound 6/10 : Nothing much to say honestly. It's your average shout commands and they follow type of thing. They respond realistic when you give them commands which is a nice feature. The various sounds and explosions while using different weapons has it high marks. I'm not much of a gun expert to know how real they got an AK-47 in this game compared to it's counterpart in real life, but I think the sound is pretty good in this game.
Replay Value 7/10 : It'll last you for a few months, it's a very short game to be honest. The multi player is a somewhat let down because there are only two types of play and there maps. Capture the flag and taking over your enemy bases. Very limited to say the least. Overall, Freedom Fighters is one of those gems that doesn't really get recognized compared to other games. Get it while it's available. You won't regret it.
