Review by Nemesissy

"Steals Spiderman 2's biggest appeal, and makes good use of it too."

Intro

Let's face it. Hulk was a failure. A terrible game, nothing like an Incredible Hulk game should be like. For what it should be like, look no further.

Story

Not the best story. The machine to contain the Hulk's rage has been destroyed, and you must retrieve parts for Bruce Banner's pal Dr Samson, to rebuild the machine. Not very exciting.

Gameplay

This is where the game shines. Anyone who played Spiderman 2 will know about the benefit of a free-roaming game. This means that you can go wherever you want in the game. No annoying restrictions. You can travel anywhere in the city. And it's quite a big city.

And the main thing that should be in every Incredible Hulk game. The ability to smash things. You can smash all manner of things in the city. You can pull up lamp posts or trees and use them as clubs, you can lift up cars and throw them or use them as steel fists, you can pick up a bus and throw it, use it as a shield or a skateboard and you can even destroy buildings. It's as fun as it sounds.

And this isn't all. You can buy upgrades which allow you to do loads of things, such as turn a bus or truck into a skateboard, turn a wreckingball into a ball and chain, use rocks as bowling balls, throw tanks, and as you may have seen in a trailer, use a missile pack as a personal missile-launcher. Wow indeed.

You can also pick up people. Yes, people. When you pick them up, you can either throw them, or put them back down. Put them down and Hulk'll give them a nice pat on the head. See, he's a nice guy at heart.

Of course, you can't expect to do so much damage and get away with it. Do too much damage and the military will be onto you. Like the Simpson's Hit and Run feature, where if you do too much damage, the police go after you. Annoying, as this restricts your smashing. Cause too much damage and anything could be sent for you. First, helicopters. Then, further into the game, tanks, and then even machines! Always nice to destroy something of value.

Unlike Spiderman, you don't have webs to swing around the city. Instead, you jump. And trust me, the Hulk can jump pretty high and far. This can be tricky at first but soon you'll be jumping over the rooftops like a pro. Very nice to land on buses and cars.

Graphics

OK, so the graphics won't win any awards, but it doesn't really matter.

Sound

Nothing special, but nothing terrible either.

Difficulty

Not hard, but some parts can be frustrating. Such as one of the retrieving missions, when you're running away from a military base, with loads of tanks blasting you, not giving you the chance to recover.

Lifespan

Not a very long game, storywise, but you'll never get bored of smashing everything in sight. There are also collectable tokens and challenges for you to do.

Conclusion

A very nice and fun game, with plenty to do. A very good 9/10.
