Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Review by playerland40
"Its... EVERYWHERE!!!"
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Originally made for the PSX ( I think. Might've been Dreamcast.), has been ported to the gamecube, only slightly enhanced. Here is my review for it.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics are okay, but nothing special. The character models looked robotic and blocky, but still had good details. The backgrounds are all 2D and pre-rendered, but in a few places, it looks almost real, which is nice. But it's the graphics for the monsters that bring the score down. Seriously, you will see the exact same zombies over and over again (must be a clothes shortage in Raccoon), and all of the dogs appear to be of the same breed (Great Danes, more or less). Nemesis on the other hand looked awesome, but that was about it.
Story: 4/10
The downfall. Most RE games involve characters stuck in a horrible situation and trying to escape BUT at the same time, uncover Umbrella's secrets and engage in plot twist after plot twist. Sadly, RE3 only focuses on the escaping part. Jill is left in Raccoon city all alone and must get out by herself, and running into a few characters on the way. No plot twists, no surprises, and I'm pretty sure most are going to already guess what the ending is going to be like.
Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay hasn't really changed, again. But there is a reason I gave it a 10, and that's because of Nemesis. The Umbrella mutant searching to kill S.T.A.R.S members. There aren't very many bosses in RE3, but Nemesis makes up for that. You see him nearly every 5 minutes or less, and he can take one helluva lot of fire power. Even the magnum is still not much of a match for this guy, but if you defeat him, sometimes you get rewards. Most of the time, you will end up finding yourself just running, but fighting it can be pretty thrilling. Give it a shot, and good luck!
Controls: 7/10
Everyone's always whining about the tank-like controls, but even when playing my first RE game, I got used to them in minutes, and by now, the controls were really easy. The reason it's a 7 is because running around zombies gets pretty hard, especially since there are a lot of cramped alleyways and hallways you will be going through, and the zombies just aren't spread out far enough, they're clamped in a little group in the worst place imaginable. Have fun getting around them.
Replay Value: 6/10
The only real replay value is trying to beat your score, or trying it in another difficulty. It's not really worth it getting an A score, but I guess if you got enough time on your hands, go for it.
Overall score: 7/10 *not and average*
The thing I liked most about this game was the addition of Nemesis. The rest is pretty much the same as other RE games, and the story was pretty lame, and isn't that supposed to be the main part of any game?
I suggest you rent this first, THEN buy it if you like it.
