Monopoly Party
Review by ravenrooney
"This game is entertaining, believe it or not"
I received this game from my grandmother, who happens to know I'm gamer. I've played the board game once in my life but quickly grew tired because it takes so long to play. The solution? Monopoly Party for the Nintendo Game Cube.
I decided when I got this game that I would take it back to the store, and put it toward another game. But, just because I didn't want to be rude, I kept it (you never know when your grandmother will look through your gaming collection). I popped it in the next day, and ended up playing for hours.
This game looks like a stupid idea, but honestly, it's great. It's a fun way to play Monopoly, without taking four hours to complete a game. It's also fun to play Monopoly in many different environments that the game provides. Each environment has it's own playing pieces, hotels, place names, houses and intricate centerpieces. It's entertaining just to explore the boards, let alone playing it.
Monopoly Party allows each player to create a profile. The profile keeps track of the players record, including it's highest amount of money earned, it's greatest victory, etc. This is a fun way to brag to your friends, by telling them you've never lost on Monopoly Party.
The music in the game is set for each board, but can be changed if the player desires it to be so. There are several options, ranging from Rock to Easy Going. The music brings an awesome feel to the Monopolized world.
The gameplay is really fun. Monopoly Party gives the player a choice to play in Party or Classic mode. Party mode allows all players to move at the same time. It can be confusing, but is really entertaining. Classic mode is every player going on his or her turn, just as the board game is. I prefer to play on Classic Mode, due to the confusion that Party Mode brings. The only negative is the restriction of players. Four players just isn't enough sometimes, but I don't believe they could have done anything to prevent that.
I found Monopoly Party to be an entertaining game, even though I contemplated returning it first. I sure am grateful to my grandmother for picking this up for me. It's a great game, and it really surprised my usual hardcore gaming collection.
