NBA Street
Review by GohanCubed
"NBA Street.......best basketball game on the GCN to date!"
Okay start hello GCN owner and proud Nintendo. I just want you to congratulate yourself on picking the system of choice. The GCN with the graphics and games to match is going all the way. Now to the review.
NBA Street is a title from the newly developer EA BIG. Not a direct port from the PS2 the new features are a rewards system,a Washington D.C. court, updated roster from january 4th 2002, and 6 new characters from other EA BIG titles such as SSX Tricky and Sled Storm.
A arcadey mix of hoops and just pure fun is NBA Street. You pick which ever team you want and three ballers head to the court. With a mix of tricks and combos you get points in which you can complete a gamebreaker shot. When this happens the spotlight's on you and if you make it the points rack in. Doing a long range gamebreaker you get 2 points and your opponent goes down by 2(4 point really),for a short range shot same thing just subtract 1 from the 2's.
GRAPHICS(9/10)
If you like SSX Tricky's graphics on the GCN there pretty much the same. When NBA Street came out on the PS2 it was one of the most impressive and clean games, now still good but less impressive. It's not taking the GCN's full power but it looks good none the less. THe characters all have shadowing and light where it is suppose to be. The animations are clean and crisp moving fluidly.
CONTROL(7/10)
Though if you playd the PS2 controller it takes time getting use to it,for a non-sony controller fan it feels fine. Trying combos do get messed up at first but once you get use to it,the controls become second hand nature. I mostly use the analog stick which I recommend gladly but alot of people use the D-pad(+) which I guss could cause alot of problems. A lack of control configuration hurts the score also.
SOUND(10/10)
A mix of hip-hop and smooth rhymes the game has got pure b-ball flavor. The announcer shouting out catchy lines at you might get annoying after a while but for me not yet. Any way you can turn him off if you want to. Also getting faster when the game heats up and the SFX are just excellent.
GAMEPLAY(10/10)
Although totally not realistic the game is fun. Bringing a street ball game of 21 to a console with all the NBA stars and some people they made up was just brillant. Only after a couple of months of EA BIG developed they're proving themselves to be quite the developer. I recommend this game to anyone who likes arcade games or basket ball.
