Gauntlet Dark Legacy
Review by BlueWizard13
"A decent game, but many flaws"
After playing this game I was somewhat disappointed due to the lack of graphics, sound, and a plot. However, this game was very fun in the ways of gameplay and going through the levels as a team. Also, I enjoyed the difficulty of the game as it went on through the different realms.
Plot: 1/10
Was there a plot? I kind of got lost in the very first dialogue (also the only plot developing sequence). All I know is that some bad guy summoned some other bad guy to take over the world. The second bad guy got mad and killed the first bad guy. Now you have to find crystals to destroy invisible shields in front of the eight different realms.
Graphics: 5/10
Not too bad, but if they had taken advantage of all of the gamecube's graphical capabilities, it would have been much better. The movie sequences were great, but the actual gameplay was poor. It was much too dark, and you couldn't even really tell the difference between the different enemies. It was very difficult to tell where the different paths and staircases were too.
Sound: 2/10
Voices were good, but there was very little of it. So the majority of the score is on the sound effects and music. The music is almost the same in every level. It is very annoying and you are almost better off playing this game with the sound off. The sound effects were horrible. For example, when you are hit by spikes, saws, or poison, you scream like moaning dinosaur from Jurassic Park. Leave the sound on for a good laugh with your friends.
Gameplay: 8/10
Overall, this is the best feature of the game. The game is very fun with a friend and doing the game in multiplayer mode. Four people would be too much, but two or three is just enough. That is the best feature of this game. To start out, this game is very easy and the levels are VERY, VERY, VERY long for a game like this!!!!!! But as the game goes on, the game gets much harder and much more interesting. One of the bad features of the gameplay is the scrolls that you pick up throughout all of the game. They outright lie to you and give you constant nonsense information. They are annoying and a very unattractive feature of this game. For example, one said (the stupidest message in the game) ''Death awaits you in the shower''. Stupid, and the worst part is, there is no shower!!!!! Overall, this game was a fun in the aspect of gameplay, but it contained minor flaws.
Replay Value: 7/10
There are enough levels in this game to make you forget how to do any one thing in the game. The darkness also adds to the difficulty in remembering what to do. It has many different places that you can go, so you will always have someplace else to go the next time you go through it. There are also many different characters that you may try do beat the game with, each with there own strengths and weaknesses. Also, there are eight unlockable characters that you get chances to unlock throughout the game.
Overall: 5/10
The plot, sound, and the graphics really pulled the game down from its full potential. Otherwise, with a good bit of touch-ups in those features, this could have been a very good game.
