"Boom."

I've been a fan of Bomberman for awhile. Lucky me, I went to buy a game and saw the last copy of Bomberman Generation on the shelf. Usually I don't buy games before renting them, but I decided to take a chance. I was not disappointed.

Gameplay

The gameplay in BG is pretty much the same throughout. Drop bombs on stuff. Although it sounds monotonous, there are many features that vary it to keep it exciting. For example, you can pick up different items to create new types of bombs, such as water bombs or ice bombs. These add new strategic elements to the game, and allow you to access some previously out of reach areas.

Also, like in the past few Bomberman games on the Game Boy systems, you can raise creatures called Charaboms. Each one gives you a special new ability, or helps you in some way. You can collect feed for them to raise their stats.

If you were worried about this game being too short, worry no more. It's a tough game, and will take awhile to get everything.

Controls

The controls are easy to learn, and very simple. A drops a bomb, and picks it up again. Z button opens the menu where you can change Charaboms and Bomb types, which can also be done using the C-stick. L/R rotate the camera. That's pretty much it. Not terribly complex, but, then again, it doesn't need to be.

Graphics

Wonderful. The cel-shaded environments and characters make the game look very colorful and cartoonish. The enemies are great, too, with some great expressions. Not much else to say here.

Sound/Music

The music is pretty good, and doesn't get too annoying. IT doesn't change much, but it didn't bother me a bit. I liked it, it fit perfectly with the graphics and the theme of the world. However, the voice acting could do some work. Cheesy boss speeches, and VERY annoying Charabom noises. They're up there with Pokemon. Not many other sound effects in the game, besides bombs exploding and enemies spewing gibberish.

Final Word

This game is great as a single player run, and AMAZING at multiplayer. Tons of different play modes, lots of maps, and customizable options. Think of the old Bomberman games and how much fun you had playing them multiplayer. Then (at least) double that. Don't expect to get bored with this one quickly. You won't.
