WWE WrestleMania X8
Review by CI254
"Not what I thought, but still awesome."
This game was really highly anticipated, and a lot of people were disappointed to see it play more like Smackdown! than No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000. But I didn't mind, cause I liked both games. Read down for more.
Story - N/A
What story? It's the World Wrestling Entertainment! You just fight, kick the crap out of your opponent, win the gold!
Graphics - 9/10
The wrestlers are the best looking in any wrestling game currently, but still not perfect. On the match-up screens, they show their real picture. The pyro and lighting for entrances are GREAT! The titan tron movies play perfectly, no skipping at all.
Sound - 7/10
A Flaw. A Big Fat Flaw. The Background music sounds like elevator music. Thank goodness you can turn it off. The Entrance Music is great, but there are plenty of themes missing. The nWo's, Tajiri's, Booker T's, Trish Stratus', Ric Flair just to name a few. Missing these themes were just plain not necessary!
Control/Gameplay - 8/10
If you have played WWF Smackdown games for the Playstation and Playstation 2, you'll know what the basic controls are. If you haven't, this game is not too hard to figure out. It'll just take a few minutes. Even though with all the Many button combinations, they are easy to figure out. When it comes to Cage, Ladder, Hell in the Cell, climbing is easy to do, so don't complain yelling HOW DO I CLIMB THIS DAMN THING!?!? because it's very easy to do. This game plays a ton better than Legends of Wrestling, thats for sure. Of course...all games play better than Legends of Wrestling. =P
Difficulty - 5/10
Capital c, h, e, e, s, y. CHEESY! The AI in this game is ok, but in Triple Threat, Fatal 4 Way, Royal Rumble, any match involving more than 1 opponent, its down right brutal. Just tap them once, even on accident, they will hunt you down for the rest of the match. Torture I tell you!!! It's hard to survive those Triple Threats. I gotta admit, those Fatal Four Ways are a lot easier than Triple Threat.
Overall - 7/10
A great way to launch the WWE to Nintendo GameCube. With a very limited CAW, I'm sure the next game will have a lot more. Not being able to edit superstars brings the score down a little also. This game is a great WWE game. Speaking of which, it's the first WWE Game to feature the wrestlers from WCW and ECW, like Rob Van Dam and Booker T.
