Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Review by cocorubs

"The best gamecube game out there: No, best game out there, period!"

Once in awhile there comes a game so cool, so intense, so intriguing with it's story line that it draws you closer and closer until, SNAP!, it take you in all together. Well, I have to say that I just got a gamecube, and this game is the BEST GAME OUT THERE, PERIOD! Since this is my first ever review, bear with me, please.
Let's take this sections at a time.

STORY: 10/10: I would give this a lot higher, but the majority of the reviews have 10 as the highest, anyhow, the story goes far and beyond the realm of ''psychological thriller''. It's such an intense story and it is the whole reason for this game, well almost. I don't want to give anything away. So you'll just have to find out for yourself.

SOUND: 10/10: I didn't think this game to be frightening, but going through the first 2 hours of it, and, well, just play the game and get into it. Best if you do what I did: I hooked my TV up to my stereo and bam, I have the sound coming out of my TV, and coming out of 2 speakers of my stereo + Play this game AT NIGHT AND ONLY AT NIGHT! Turn the volume up loud and pretend you are part of this game, the only way to truly appreciate these sounds.

GRAPHICS: 9/10: I didn't think the graphics to be ground-breaking, but I didn't think them to be bad either. They were nearly perfect. I have heard people say that Resident Evil has much better graphics, but this game really isn't that bad in the graphics department. In fact the lighting effects are cool, as well as the atmosphere of the game. The graphics will do just fine, not perfect, but far from bad.

CONTROLS: 10/10: I give this a perfect score because it is in no way like Resident Evil and Silent Hill's controls. You take the little joystick and move around and it goes in the direction you point it to go, easy. The controls are definitely a plus to this game. It make the game very easy to get through, but not that easy.

GAMEPLAY: 10/10: This game is just way to fun to give gameplay anything less than a perfect score. I mean, I would compare this game a cross of: 1. Resident Evil, 2. Silent Hill, and 3. Final Fantasy X. The game is like Final Fantasy X with it use of magic, and the linear gameplay of that game. The game is like Resident Evil by going through a house and finding items, and solving puzzles. Don't worry the puzzles of this game are definitely not hard, which helps the game run smoothly. I have been through the first 1/6 of the game, I belive, and I have figured out the puzzles very easily, there was one part where I was stuck, but figured it out pretty easily. The puzzles are NOT like Resident Evil. It's basically a common sense puzzles. I don't know how much harder it will get, but I like the easy puzzles, smoother game flow and lot's of fun. The puzzles should not be a deterrent to buying this game. It's only a reason to even get more excited about this game. The game is like Silent Hill because of it's awesome story. This game is very big. I hear people say that the game is about 25-30 hours the first time through, and that compared to the current Gamcube games is huge. I am currently 2 hours and 37 minutes of game time. I know that's not enough to write a review, but this game is just plain fun.

On top of the exploring, first-class story, nice puzzles which are really easy, incredible sound, admirable graphics, there is yet another feature of this game that you will not see in any other video games out there. I will not tell you what that is, as it wouldn't ruin the game or anything like that for you, but I just want you to be amazed by this feature. Go get the game now and play through it. You will see the feature and that is very much a part of this game that just plain puts this game over-the-top.

REPLAY ABILITY: I can't tell you because I am not even 1/2 way through the game, but they say that there is a pretty good amount of replay ability. But I can tell you, even if I finish the game, I want to go and replay it because it's that fun and the story is that good.

BUY OR RENT: BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! If the game were about $100, I would suggest you buy the game. It's a keeper for years to come.

In conclusion, this is, by far, the best gamecube game out there. It doesn't even compare to Resident Evil 1, for that matter, I believe that this is the best game out of all of the systems: X-box, Gamecube, and PS2. I thought there were good games out there for each system, but this one is different, yet uses some of the same elements of other game out there. I must let you know that this game is definitely a horror game. There were definitely moments so far that scared me. Once you go out and buy this game, it will be the best gaming experience if you DO NOT BUY THE GUIDE (cheating will only shorten the game, buy the guide after you finish the game, you can do without it because the puzzles are not that hard), you go play the game alone in a room, that is dark (play the game at night, ONLY), try to get a speaker hooked up to your TV (it's not that hard to do), and that will enhance this, what I would say would be, the game of the year.

To the producers of this game: Silicon Knights, Please work on Eternal Darkness 2, because, when I finish this game, I am left wanting more and more and more!

I am changing the rating of this game: 100/10 That GOOD!
GO BUY IT NOW! The best game out there for your Gamecube!
