All-Star Baseball 2003
Review by Hypa Kid 64
"Best baseball game out."
First of all, let me say this.
This is the best baseball game out for any system right now. It is better than Home Run King, and is better IMO than that other baseball game out(I can't remember the name of it, you know, the one by Midway?) Anyway, here is my review.
Gameplay:The gameplay is pretty good, but there is one MAJOR draw back. A season takes up all but 1 block on a memory card, and the middle of a franchise takes up 159 blocks, so you MUST buy one of those bigger memory cards that holds a lot of info. Besides that, the franchise mode is awesome, and the season mode is great too. In Expansion mode, you get an Expansion team and build it to make it better. It's basically a franchise mode with an expansion team in it. Exhibition is nothing special, just a fun baseball game. You can also ''Buy'' player cards like you can in the recent Madden games. You get points by doing numerous things in a game. I.E. 10 strikeouts, a home run, 2 homeruns with one player, among other things. With those points, you buy player cards.
There is also a ''trivia'' mode. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's a trivia game where if you get a question right, you hit the ball. This mode seems odd to me, and I never use it, but it is a good test to see if you know your baseball trivia.
Overall Score-9/10
Graphics:The stadiums look GREAT, they look just like their real life counterparts. The players look great too. You never really get to look at their face, so it's kind of hard to tell if their face looks good or not, but the players bodies look great. Of course, their are a few graphic things that could be changed. If you are standing 10 feet from the ball, you will catch catch it. Some of the diving catches look unrealistic. The ball looks like it will hit the ground, but it magically goes into the glove. Same way with running catches. Also, in the replay when it shows you hitting the ball, it looks fake to.
Overall Score-7/10
Sound:There isn't really any sound. You can hear voices in the stands, which is ok. But sometimes they don't do right. Sometimes when the home team is batting, or when nobody is even batting, a fan will scream ''swing, batter, batter, batter, batter, SWING''. The sound/music on the menu's are ok nothing special.
Overall Score-6/10
Replayability:It is great if you have a memory card, even greater if you have one of the bigger memory cards. The season mode is fun, and the Expansion/Franchise mode is awesome, and getting player cards can make the game last, also. But, of course, you need a memory card
Overall Score-9/10with a large memory card, 8/10with just a regular memory card, 5/10 with no memory card
Overall Score-9/10The game is awesome. If you don't have a memory card, take off 2 points.
Buy or Rent-Buy, along with a memory card if you are a huge baseball fan. If you are just a sports fan, rent it and see how you like it. But if I were you, I'd rent it and see how much I really liked it. High Heat 2003 is coming out soon, and it will be the same price as this. If you REALLY like this game, get this, but if it doesn't interest you that much, I'd wait for HH 2003
