Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO

Review by bAc0Nb0Y

"Full of Stuff to do...almost too full."

Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO. I'll admit that I hadn't heard much about it in advance. I had played a lot of the previous Vs. games and so when I heard that GCN was getting one I was more than thrilled. Then I played the game:

Graphics: 9/10
I gotta admit. The graphics look amazing on this game. Everything looks very well done. The characters are very smooth and well animated. Hell, you can even change their colors/names to customize your own character(very cool.) The only reason this didn't get a 10 is because I couldn't stand all of the yellow squares. Sure, it's a small qualm, but a qualm none the less.

Sound: 10/10
Everything sounded great. There were some excellent remixes of old tunes, and cleaner versions of old stuff. Sound Effects were also very well done. Punches sound like punches and kicks sound like kicks. The only small complaint I could make here were that grunts never changed depending upon attacks. Nothing major, so no points deducted. However, the announcer does kind of suck.

Control: Gc-ism 1/10
Ac-ism 6/10
Yeah, GC control is THAT bad. If you're a serious fighting game person, you are going to HATE Gc-Ism with a passion. I used it once and never touched it again. Also, with Ac-ism it was still hard to pull off some special moves. I think this can be attributed to GCN's extremely small control pad. I heard some people complain about difficulty with high kick and punch because of the odd buttons. I'll say that I never had any real trouble with that except for with high kick. That's just me though.

Menu Navigation: 6/10
Unfortunately, this was a real pain. Especially when it came to choosing all the different options for your character, because you can't go back. Once it's picked, it's picked. Also, for some odd reason, Capcom designers have this thing against basic up-down menus. Everything in the game was diagonal in some way, shape, or form. That was interesting at first, but then it got annoying.

Options:11/10
JEEZ...SERIOUSLY. Talk about beating a horse to death and then burning the corpse! You can adjust EVERYTHING in this game. From fighting styles to difficulties to colors to settings to damage ratios. It's insane! Also, with 44 different main characters, I'd say the chances of finding the one to suit your needs won't be too hard. Except for the 7 or 8 Ryu clones, everyone is more or less unique.

Overall:6/10
I'll admit. This game overwhelmed me. I'm more of a simple fighter kind of guy and this thing just surprised me with all the options. If you're a fan of the Capcom fighters, this will not dissapoint in any way...EXCEPT...for the GCN Controller. Sorry, but it was never built for fighting games. Hopefully GCN gets some type of fighting stick in the future.

Rent/Buy: Honestly, rent it first. I'll say that about every game unless I'm totally sure that it is great. Those 2-d Capcom fighting fanatics will probably love this game. Not to mention the SNK fanatics. Just to be sure though...Rent it.
