Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee
Review by NintendoMoose
"A Real Treat for Gozilla Fans"
This is my first review, but there were hardly any for this game so I decided to make it. Hope it's not too bad.
Story: Evil alien dudes have taken control of the minds of Earth's monsters, who until now had been living on Monster Island, to attack the humans until they can take them over or something. I don't really remember, but it's kinda cool. And funny at times.
Graphics: To be realistic, these aren't the best graphics on the Gamecube, but are still very good. The fighters look pretty much exactly like their big screen counterparts. The size compared to the cities works very nicely. Buildings look like buildings, and have a simple falling down sequence when you . . . knock them down. But it works. There's alot of detail too. You can see the little cars in the street, then step on them until they explode! Yay! If you hit a building once, it will be set on fire. After stomping or throwing someone dust clouds appear. And if you choose to play in night mode, the city lights up.
Overall: 9/10
Sound: If you're looking for a musical masterpiece, go buy a Mozart CD. (seriously. they're good) The music is extremely forgettable. Most of the time, you won't even realize it's there. It is put in the background mostly by all the loud sound effects, which fortunately, are very good. It gets really loud. Lots of fun.
Overall: 7/10
Camera: You don't control the camera yourself in this game. It usually just stays in the general area of where everyone is. Sometimes it will zoom in really close, or really far away. This may or may not affect anything. Sometimes large buildings and stuff get in the way. Most of the time this is taken care of because they become transparent. (see-through for you illiterate people)
Overall: 8/10
Control: The controls are pretty basic. A to punch, or throw when you get up close, B to kick, Z to shoot your projectile thingy, and R to jump. Every monster has an additional move unique to them as well. There are also several special combos you can pull off. Most of the monsters move pretty slowly, which is something you'll have to get used to. At times the game slows down a little, and certain moves may not go through properly. This can be kind of frustrating, but it's not a big deal.
Overall: 8/10
Gameplay: Now the important stuff. There are basically 3 modes of play. Adventure, Survival, and Melee. Adventure is where you play different stages and progress through the story with a monster of your choice. Survival is basically an arcade mode, play different stages until you die. And Melee is of course the multiplayer mode. The main objective is to defeat the other player(s) by whatever means possible. Be this hand to hand combat, summoning Mothra, or just plain chucking skyscrapers at their head. And man is it fun! This makes very great multiplayer capabilities. While not good enough to rival Super Smash Bros. Melee, it is still really great.
Overall: 9/10
Replay: As with other mainly multiplayer games, this one never gets old. You will have to beat Adventure mode with each character at least once to obtain new monsters and cities. You can even collect special gallery pictures. It gets old eventually, but should keep you entertained for long enough.
Overall: 8/10
Final: If you are a huge fan of Godzilla, then you already know that this is a must buy. But it is not limited to only them. I must admit I'm not a big Godzilla buff. I've only seen 3 of the movies, one of which was the Fox version with Matthew Broderick, and I've never played the other games before. What appealed to me was the aspect of being a giant monster thing stomping on stuff. It's just cool. Especially for multiplayer.
Buy or rent: Probably a buy. If you're a Godzilla fan, then you have to buy this as I said, and you will love it. If not, you might want to rent it just in case.
Overall: 8/10
Um . . . . . . The End. It was kind of short but I think it worked. I guess I'm supposed to stop now
