Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee
Review by coolryan3
"The MOST underrated game of 2002!"
This game has not gotten the fame it deserves. I have been a huge Godzilla fan for most of my life, so I bought this game as soon as I possibly could. I do not regret buying this game, in fact, in my mind, this will go down as one of the best games ever.
Gameplay: 10/10
This is the strongest points of the game. It is different from your average fighting game, and it is sort of like a mix of a Street Fighter game, and a Super Smash Brothers game. There are 6 unique game modes to decide how you want to play. You choose which monster you would like to be, out of 10, and choose to fight in one of 19 different cities. When the game starts you are all free to go, able to do anything you want. For example, in “Destruction” mode, you are in a race to see who can get the most points by knocking down buildings. And in “Versus” mode, it’s your average one vs. one battle.
Story: 9/10
Just like a Godzilla movie, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee involves monsters, aliens, and people. The aliens take over Monster Island using mind control. But the only one who doesn’t get controlled is the monster you choose. It’s up to you to beat up the monsters and knock some sense into them. It’s not too extensive, so I only gave it a 9/10
Audio/Video: 10/10
The audio in this game really brings up the score. From Anguirus’ scream to a falling building, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee has it all. The audio is nice and crisp and the music is just like watching a Godzilla movie. It captures the sense that you are the monster, destroying things.
The graphics are amazing! Fire Blasts, falling buildings, smoke everywhere, big monsters, I could go on and on. And everything in this game looks as real as you could possibly get! The buildings look like actual buildings, and when they fall, the smoke clouds up part of your view. And all the different cities will keep your eyes from getting bored.
Replayability: 10/10
This game will keep you busy for a while! You start with only 3 monsters, and have to build your way up to 10 monsters. As well, you only start with a few cities, and unlock the rest, both by playing the story mode. Each of the different modes also adds some replayability. Each of the 6 game modes are uniquely different, and are fun to play.
If you have many friends over, that’s even more the reason to buy this game. Up to four players can play at once. You can experiment all the different game modes using all the different characters. Even with one friend over, you could be occupied with this game for a long while
Buy/Rent: Buy
If you don’t like Godzilla too much, I’d recommend renting, but if you love Godzilla, buy this game right away! You won’t regret it.
