Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Review by devilsminion
"The adventure begins use the force or just blow em away!"
This is a FP style adventure brought to you from Lucas Arts. Unlike Rogue leader and other titles the graphics on this game are perhaps the least special. What it lacks here it makes up on the game play.
Graphic
The game dosen't wow you with eye candy but it has the best game play of any star wars game I have played to date. The storm troopers and other charaters are good enough but if they would have spent a little more time this game would have been something remarkable. They don't use the lighting the shadowing effects that would have made this game stand out.
Gameplay
This is where the game excels. You have the ability to use the force to do various tasks. If you come across a door that won't open use the force to force it open. You are being attacked and don't have a weapon use the force to pull it out of there hands and put it in yours. You are being attacked by to many enemies you can use the force to push them all back. You also have the general weapons assortment of laser guns light sabre and some grenade type weapons. There are parts where you have to think rather than just blast everything in sight. The game really is the most in depth of the Star Wars series.
Graphics
Here is the only draw back to the game and the reason I gave it an 8 not a 9 or 10. Although everything is recognizable there is no use of the features of lighting and shadows. This game would have been simply amazing if it had the came graphics as Rogue leader. What it lacks here it makes up in the actual game itself there is just a load of things to do and with the use of the force it really is incredible. When you are confronted with to many enimies, like in Return of the Jedi, you can use electrical force to attack them it really is special. Although I complain it really is just eye candy and dosen't interfere with the game itself.
Sound
Well this game has taken full advantage of surround sound and the music and effects are well done. The light sabre sounds very good the lasers sound as you would imagine. There is voice interaction you hear ''who goes there'' I suggest anyone who takes there gaming to any serious degree to use dolby 5.1 receiver it puts you in the game.
Replayability
Although I have not finished this game yet I definitely plan to go again there are several degrees of difficulty from Padawan to Jedi Knight and a locked level. The game is quite detailed with side quests and your main mission. What I think makes this game stand out is the ability to use the force although you start with no ability you work your way up.
All Around
I think this is the best FP game yet. I have not yet played Clone Wars or Bounty Hunter so I can't compare it to them but I have played Rogue leader and the N64 version and I do enjoy flying ships I like to be able to get out and investige. This is a definite must buy in the series and one you will definetly enjoy. I would say if you are just looking for a FPS then you might want to buy Metroid Prime but if you are a Star Wars fan then buy it and enjoy.
