Resident Evil 2
Review by Punk1
"A worthy flash back?"
Hmm... RE:2. The follow up of the great remake and the totally new RE game. I started playing Resident Evil when I was 9 or 8... my first game was RE:2. It was my favorite game and can be argued the best game in the RE series. When I heard RE:2 was going to be a port, I didn't mind that much because of the nice price tag ($19.99.) Unfortunately the price tag was jacked to $39.99. That was the biggest dissapointment ever. So, instead of buying the game, I rented it.
Gameplay: 8/10
Good ol' RE... at it's best. Cant take away from the gameplay man... even tho the game is 5 yrs old. Not much to say, good storyline, same controls, and arrange mode. If your a veteren, like myself, the gameplay is old.
Sound: 9/10
The best sound of its time is still with-holding out today. I kno that it has better sound than most of today's games. Hook it up to a surround sound plus a good tv and get ready for alot of shivers, jumps, and screams.
Graphics: 6/10
Cant help, but wonder... WHY CAPCOM, WHY!?! I always have in the back of my mind what this coulda been. Biggest dissapointment ever. IF they did a grapical remake the frights would have been almost fresh.
Lasting Appeal: 6/10
In 1998... this game was one of the best games around. Today, It's still a fun game to play when you and the guys (or girls) are hangin around. The A/B senarios make it last a-bit longer. Arrange Mode (Rookie Mode) is kinda fun 2. Same old unlockable secrets aren't that worth of upholding lasting appeal.
Story: 10/10
I had to raise the score a bit... In my opinion, the best RE story to date. All you newbs... will love the story. I kno I did when I was a newb, and I still do. It takes place in Raccon City, through the eyes of Leon Kennedy (my favorite character.), a rookie cop, assigened to Raccon City and Clair Redfield, Chirs' sister. They show up in the wrong place at the wrong time... being chased by a mob of zombies... they seperate and head to the mansion. THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS!
RENT, BUY or FORGET?
If your a die-hard fan or a newb... BUY
If your a vet looking for something to do... RENT
I personally rented it. Than after much debate, I bought it. I wanted to support Capcom... even tho there ripping us off ($39.99 ha!)
