Evolution Worlds
Review by Hero Dark
"A very tedious yet short game."
Introduction – You probably heard of Evolution from the Dreamcast. With it’s low budget cuts and not having English voice actors for it. Well now they do and it’s still the same game with 25% of Evolution and 100% of Evolution 2.
Story – 4/10 Well since it start at 25% of Evolution the story will be back of the case of it will be there instead Evolution 2 which is completely the full game of it. Well the story is about Cyframe users who seek out treasures of great value from ruins, and sells it to the Society for donation and/or for money. You are Mag Launcher a little 16 year old kid who is in debt from the society because Mag’s father started the debt in the first place because of searching of the legendary Cyframe. Mag’s is one of the mill teenage hero. Comic relief towards the beginning and serious during the course of the game. Overall you don’t get that much back story on the dungeons or the main story itself. So there is really not that much depth to it.
Gameplay -7/10 First the controls are simple and easy to learn and you get used to it fast. The city layout is simple and easy to learn also. Your party is easy to spot and shops are simple to find. The dungeon levels of this game is very simple. Reach the top(or bottom) and fight the boss of the dungeon. Yes it’s quite simple despite being the tower dungeon as I say. Going up and up and seeing the same old layouts and same old monsters. Sure there are status trap, but they wear off quick and quite a stupid and annoying thing to add in for extra difficulty since no monsters are almost not around. The bestiary isn’t very large either. I can bet there is about 20-30 average monsters in this game. The monsters due level up with you as you go higher(or lower) to each floor, but it’s the same monster with a bad A.I. It seems the monsters just randomly do anything. There is some dungeon that isn’t tower base, but it is very rare in this game. The battle system amazing. You can see your turns at the right screen on who goes first depending on the agile. You can knock opponents of their wait time or give ally’s yours. The layout of your party is a 3x3 as in the closer you are the more damage you receive and deal and vice versa. The enemies have a 4x4 square which typically does the same thing. Also the technique point system other then experience point is typically to learn more skills and uses FP which is typically like MP from most other RPG games. Sounds fun and all, but it gets real repetitive fighting the same monsters over and over again for an hour. Though the best benefit and the best part of the game is the two last bosses which is really challenging and fun, well the only fun part of the game anyway.
Graphics/Sound – 8/10 The graphics are wonderfully updated from the Dreamcast version except the monsters you battle. Don’t know why they didn’t upgrade it, just only a few monsters in it. The battle graphics are a bit sub par since when you finish your attacks it resets right away so fast that you can see them go back without walking back and do their stance. Other than that the skill attacks are amazing. All the characters have nice anime facial expression when the something happens and the English voice actors are cool except Eugene… Though I don’t like the battle cries or damage since it’s so irritating. Yes there is swearing in this game despite being an E rated game. The music is wonderful but it’s get old fast since you be in the same dungeon old dungeon for one to two hours.
Challenge - 5/10 Not only the bestiary is lacking the monster are incredibly easy to beat. The monsters tend to go on numbers except the last dungeon a bit, but you can squash them easily like flies, and the dungeon is incredibly simple just find your path to go up. No keys, puzzles, or mind boggling things since the dungeon is long enough, but more boring then ever. The only challenge as I said was the two last boss which incredibly hard. Overall the game is too easy I beat it approx. 10 hours.
Replay Value - 6/10 It has some replay value, but I never played the game since it was too much of a yawn fest and quite an endurance to me to beat it. After you beat this game you have to find all the appraisal items and get a special reward. Also there is a Top Hunter mode you can do.
Final Recommendation - I recommend everyone to rent this before you buy this game. If you have Evolution 1 & 2 don’t bother getting it. It’s the same game except a little bit of extras that’s not worth your time to get.
Overall – 6/10(not an average) This was boring to me because the lack of anything new for the past two hours with the same things except different very simple layouts that is easy to beat monsters with easy to beat bosses except the last two.
