Batman: Dark Tomorrow
Review by Phlibbit
"The Batman arrives on the Gamecube with an uber-enjoyable experience"
Well, I've been waiting for this game for over 2 years. As with every game, the longer you wait, the higher your expectations get. Batman: Dark Tomorrow doesn't quite live up to what it should have been, but it's actually a very likeable and tolerable game.
Graphics:
The graphics on this game are actually pretty good, unlike what you heard. They are notably better on the Gamecube; on the first level in the XBox version, there is NO rainstorm, which is odd. The graphics fit the dark mood of Gotham City, and it's surroundings. They aren't anything spectacular, but nice. The FMV sequences are very well put together as well, and there's about a good hour of them. The cape physics are very well done, and looks very realistic.
Sound:
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra did the score for the FMV sequences, while EGG did the in-game music. Both are moody, and capture the levels and tone well. The sounds for all of Batman's utility belt items are well done as well. As far as fighting, the sounds are very repetitive and say the SAME thing over and over, especially while you punch someone.
Control/Gameplay:
The controls in this game have a very high learning curve. However, once you get used to them, they really aren't so bad. The camera doesn't suck; you just don't see that kind of camera often and it takes a little getting used to. If you hold the control stick in the same direction, Batman still moves in that direction into the next screen; you don't constantly have to change. The stealth modes are limited, but neat when used properly. You can sneak behind walls and throw smoke capsules and batarangs at enemies. You can crouch and roll to be undetected. You can also sneak up behind enemies and give them a sleeper hold or a swift Judo chop attack, very cool.
Replay Value:
There are hidden CDs and Sketchbooks to be found within the game. I myself even got more than what was listed in the player's guide... The more you play it and get used to it, the more you like it.
Final Score: 7.6
This game does dissapoint in a few areas, but if you like Batman and can sit down and take the time to get used to the camera and controls, you should have a pretty good time.
