SSX Tricky
Review by ShrinaSoldier231
"Someone tricked me!"
INTRODUCTION
When I bought my Gamecube at EB, they said pick two games because you'll get them free. I was like, AWESOME! So I immediately decided to get Star Wars Rogue Squadron. I was wanting to get Super Smash Brothers Melee too, but they didn't have it. Hm. . .I'll take SSX Tricky. So the two games I got were Rogue Squadron and SSX Tricky. I took it home, plugged in my brand new GameCube, and put in Tricky first. I really liked it a lot at first, I mean a LOT! But after playing it for a while, I realized a lot of problems with this game. So let's get onto the review.
SOUND
The sound is quite interesting. . .first off, the characters have their own voices, which I found interesting. But want to know the bad thing about this? Their voices are stupid. Other than their voices, the sound is quite good. It sounds good whenever your board goes over the snow, sounds realistic. But the stupid voices just kill the score a lot, but the realistic sounds help out the score some. So I'm going to give the sound a 3 out of 10. 3/10
REASON: Stupid, stupid voices
MUSIC
The music fits the game actually. It's upbeat and such, just interesting. The music is all different and has some variety to it. So it's all good. . .I'm going to give the music a perfect score. 10/10
GRAPHICS
The graphics are picture perfect. Everything is very well made. The snow is pretty, the trees are well made, the tracks are designed differently. So I'm going to give the music a perfect score. 10/10
CONTROLS
Oh my gosh. . . .the controls are horrible. Absolutely horrible. . .it's impossible to perform a trick. Well at least performing it right. I could perform the trick but I couldn't land it. The controls just fill out of place and I do not like the controls at all. If they could had tweaked the controls some, I could actually take the game. But it's just impossible to stand the game with these horrible controls. For some reason, the GameCube cannot realize you're pressing the buttons. Then you're wanting to send the controller through the TV. I'm going to give the controls a 0 out of 10. 0/10
REASON: The controls are just horrible
GAMEPLAY, FUN FACTOR, and REPLAY VALUE
The gameplay has a few things going for it. You got the single event, which you can choose from in that: race, showoff, or time trial. Race is just where you race. Showoff is where you just perform tricks and time trial is just where you try to beat your times and make times. World Circuit is the other mode. It has another reprise from race and showoff. You have to place third or better in race to go onto the next level. Showoff is where you have to get a certain amount of points to get a metal. So the gameplay is quite good. The problem? The controls, it's sometimes impossible to get past those levels because of the controls. You're sitting there cursing the TV because of the controls. See, the levels have a time limit. Sure, doesn't seem all that bad, but if wasn't for the controls, I could get through the levels. But it just doesn't work that way. The fun factor is just horrible because of the controls. The replay value is high, very high, but you won't want to play it if you can't get use to the controls. The gameplay is good, but the controls make it suffer. So the gameplay gets a 4 out of 10, the fun factor gets a 0 out of 10, the replay value gets a 5 out of 10.
GAMEPLAY: 4/10 (REASON: The controls)
FUN FACTOR: 0/10 (REASON: Controls)
REPLAY VALUE: 5/10 (REASON: Controls)
CONCLUSION on SCORES
Sound - 3/10
Music - 10/10
Graphics - 10/10
Controls - 0/10
Gameplay - 4/10
Fun Factor - 0/10
Replay Value - 5/10
AVERAGE: 4.5
FINAL AVERAGE: 5/10
CONCLUSION
If you really really REALLY loved the first one, I say you'll eat this alive. Me, I never played the first one. So I'm sure the hardcore fans will love this. But for the people that's never played it, just rent this. That is all.
