SSX Tricky
Review by Luigifan98
"Fun... until you've had for a week"
Hello guys and girls and welcome to my review. This is my second review, first being the one on Space Channel 5 on Dreamcast, (look for it!) and unfortunately, this game won't be getting as good a score as the last game. Wanna know why? Read the review.
Story: 5
Average. All I can say is average. There basically is no story to this game. If I explain the story here, then I'll basically be telling you the gameplay, so we can skip right along to...
Gameplay: 8
Gameplay. Now I have to admit, this game is pretty fun. It could (and it probably would) take you hours to get everything this game has to offer. The point of this game is to get a gold medal in either racing or showoff mode. Sounds easy right? Well, actually it kinda is. racing is the easiest of the two sections. All you do is race down the mountain. If you do tricks while you snowboarding your tricky meter goes up. You can use this to give you a little boost while snowboarding. The higher the tricky meter, the faster the boost will make you become. The game's true potential lies in showoff mode. This is where the fun comes in.In showoff mode, all you need to do is do tricks. That's it. Now, just like in racing mode, when you do tricks, your tricky meter goes up. But, instead of using it as a boost, you should use for a trick move. In order to do a tricky move, your tricky meter must be completely full (you'll know when it's full, I promise). Once you do this, a button combo will show up on the bottom of the screen. Do that, or any button combo you want to, you'll do a tricky. The tricky's are really cool to look at, and fairly easy to pull off. The racing section of this game really pulls down the total score of gameplay.
Sound/Music: 7
Not much to this section. THe music is okay to me, nothing really wrong with it all, but sometimes it can get really annoying. But I guess that's what the mute button is for, huh?
Controls: 8
There is basically nothing wrong with the controls. Nothing majorally wrong, just minor problems. Sometimes, the characters turn too wide and you run into stuff or fall right when you're about to fill up your tricky meter and you have to start all over again. The controls could have been better.
Replay value: 4
Pretty low, huh? Well, it's for a good reason. Like my sypnosis said, the game is real fun until you have had it for like a week. The game slows down fast, and you could get bored of it very easily. The only part that redeems this section from becoming even lower is when two people play. You will have more fun when two people play this game.
Rent or Buy?
Well, I rented this game first, really liked it so I re-rented it, a couple of weeks later, I bought it and it got old fast. So, I recommend renting this game first, don't get tricked at how fun the game is at first, if you event like the first time you play it. If you think you can hang with this game in your permanant game library, then by all means buy it, but I don't think I would have if
i had rented it that one last time...
