NBA Street Vol. 2
Review by zamani
"The ressurection of fun basketball."
Let's start with the basics...
Graphics: NBA Street Vol. 2 looks stunning, but it's not without its flaws. The courts are colorful and vivid, and the hoops are all unique, with their own physics and textures. Few things in life are better than watching Stretch smack the ball in the hoop in one of the game's new Gamebreakers (we'll get into that later), but the graphics were nothin to write home about. The characters themselves could use some work (kind of... floppy), but overall, the graphics are really a sight for sore eyes.
Score: 7/10
Sound: This game has a great soundtrack. The tunes left me reeling, they were tracks that really set the mood of the game. They're low-key, smooth, mellow hip-hop tracks that make you want to play this game. The sound effects were great, too. Groans and grunts, slams and dunks, you can hear every minute detail, in brilliant execution. There really isn't too many things wrong with the sounds in this game, except the announcer can get on your nerves pretty quick...
Score: 8.5/10
Gameplay: Now this is where the game really shines. You have complete control over your character; you can pass, kick pass, pump fake, fadeaway, or pick any dunk you choose with the greatest of ease. There are so many options for you to choose as you roll down the court and you'll find yourself using all of them. You start to ponder the opposing teams weak points and use it against them, which will win you a lot of games. Then, of course, there are the tricks. The coolest looking things ever seen in a basketball game, the tricks will leave your opponent guessing, and will leave your mouths hanging open. You will be astonished the first time you try a new move, and then it will turn into a tactical offense. New moves? Veterans of the first NBA Street will feel at home, but there is so much more to learn, grasshopper. In addition to Gamebreakers, you can now save your Gamebreaker and perform a super-charged, trick-point harvesting Level 2 Gamebreaker. These involve the whole team, and they are worth saving up for.
Score: 10/10
Replay value: NBA Street Vol. 2 will keep you playing for a long, long time. With a gauntlet of a one player mode, lonely players will find themselves hooked for quite a while. Multiplayers have it even better! The 2-player mode is very well done, and it is something to play when you and your friends are just kickin back. Aside from that, there is a monster of extras for you to unlock, like moves, jerseys, and players. This game really has it all.
Score: 9/10
Overall: I really love this game. It is a keeper. Probably the most entertaining basketball game I've ever played, and definitely the most in-depth. It looks good, sounds good, plays awesome, and isn't over in a week. I strongly encourage you to BUY NBA Street Vol. 2.
