"Don't Be Fooled"

Don't be fooled by this seemingly simple game. I'm a golfer, and I enjoy a good challenge in a game. In a golf game, that challenge comes from the variety of courses. I have never seen a golf game with as much variety as this. On the con side, some of the extras I've grown accustomed to are somehow missing. Mainly stats are not saved, and there is no profile system. This, however, is only a minor flaw.

Graphics: 9 In general, the graphics are somewhat downplayed, with simple textures and characters. However, there are moments when your jaw will drop and you'll be shocked at what Camelot has done.

Sound Effects: 8 My criteria for a golf game is mainly for it not to be annoying when it comes to sound. Mario Golf: TT does a good job of keeping the sounds fairly subdued, with the exception of the ever-so-annoying 'taunts.' I have no idea why this concept is still in golf games at all, and even more shocked at why there is no option to disable it.

Music: 6 In a word: Average. At first I was surprised at the upbeat tracks and the overall quality, but as with any golf game, there are some filler tracks. Don't rush out to get the CD.

Gameplay: 10 Excellent. This is how a golf game should feel and play. ''Easy to learn, hard to master.'' This game compensates for that friend who just has no clue when it comes to video games by giving them a two-tap hit. This also comes in handy when your just going to lay up.

Overall: 9

Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour blends old school and new, but doesn't bring too much to the table. In my opinion, it plays better than the Tiger series, and a little better than hot shots. The only thing that nags at me is the lack of a profile/stats system, and no equipment upgrades. The equipment, however, is kind of a blessing and a curse due to the fact that less options means more time playing the game. I've also noticed that the speed of this game is incredible, with 18 holes taking only about 15 minutes, instead of a half-hour to an hour (with 2 players).

I would recommend this game as a purchase if you enjoy golf games, and to definitely check it out if you're new to the genre.
