Summoner: A Goddess Reborn
Review by Antichrists Approval
"Doesn't live up to Summoner"
Introduction
I will start off by saying Summoner is far better than this weaker sequel. It is a good game none the less. I think they tried to go a little Final Fantasy with this sequel, but it is still action based no turn based stuff here, so don't worry. Now on with the review.
Story 10/10
The story is what will make you like this game. It's about Maia the queen of Halassar the reborn of the God Lahara. A war will break out, and she goes out to help, but it turns into much, much more. She will not be alone on her quest however she will ever help on her mission. She will have Taurgis, Sangaril, Prince Neru, Iari, Morbazon, Krobelus, and Yago. Yes it's the same Yago from Summoner, cool huh?
Gameplay 7/10
I think they went overboard with all of the items and magics they put in the game. There wasn't that much items or magic, and it was good that way. In the game you can summon monsters to help you on your quest. The combat system has been changed from Summoner. In this game you can decide when you attack not press attack and let the characters do the rest. It's about the only thing better in this game than Summoner. The game is fairly hard, when you get to around the end anyway.
Graphics/Sound 7/10
The graphics could have been a lot better. I didn't feel that they used all the power of the PS2 in this game. Summoner's graphics I thought were really better. The sound was perfect, though. I didn't really find a thing wrong with it, but because of the poor graphics it gets a seven.
Playtime/Replayability 6/10
I think it won't be as good for you seeing it the second time, but most RPGs are like that. However there are several side quests that don't connect to the main storyline. They will be stuff like you having to get items for citizens. I don't think it would be as surprising the second time, so it gets a seven.
Final Recommendation
If you are a fan of Summoner, and you want to get it to keep on collecting the series I say buy it. If you're just buying it because you think it looks cool don't get it. This game is really only for fans who want to collect the Summoner series. I give the whole game a seven out of ten.
