Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights

Review by egg man

"What did they Scooby Doo to this game?"

Scooby-Doo is a good cartoon, but not a good game. It just, doesn’t work. When you turn on the game, the good old theme song comes on, and a badly-done version of the titles of one of the many versions of cartoons. I recognised it and smiled. And then frowned, because of the bad graphics and poor presentation.

Graphics: 2/10

Not so good. If they had spent some time on it, I would like it a whole lot more. I don’t know whether the people at Scooby-Doo did this just to get more money, or were keen to have a good game, but I don’t think the latter applies very much here. If you’re wondering about the graphics, then Scooby looks a bit square, in my opinion.

Sound: 3/10

Aaaah, the sounds. Screams, springs, shrieks, a bad laugh track, it’s got it all!! When you do something like, say, jump and hang on a light, (what? I do it all the time!!) some invisible audience laughs. Just like the cartoons, then. I gave it a 3 because of originality. Very original.

Game play: 4/10

A bit better. It’s quite easy to control, but its all about the camera. The camera. Poor. And jumping from platform to platform, up some stairs, Oh, it turns into a slide. Platforms. Why can’t the camera just stick behind me!! Why? The camera is indescribable in this game. Ugh.

Story: 6/10

Ahh, well at least they thought the story through. Friends get kidnapped; see Shaggy every so often; save friends after a boss. Ahh, the bosses. I forgot. First boss, you have too hit these things while dodging slow axes. Hmm.

Replay Factor: 2/10

When you’ve done it once, I don’t think it’s possible to stand doing it again. Might as well just cheat. You never know, it might be interesting. Might.

Rent or buy? RENT

Not good to buy. Rent first. In fact, I think its worth the renting price actually…

Overall: 3/10

This game, if anything, does not make Scooby-Doo more popular. It makes him less appealing to me. I don’t think the game is up to scratch. Yay, classic villains, yay collectable monster tokens, but, no, they’re not worth the effort either. If you collect the monster tokens, you get a little information and a trivia question. Not worth it. Nobody should sell this game, in my opinion. But remember, that is MY opinion. You have your own. I don’t mean to be horrible to this game, I’m just being honest.
So if you really, REALLY like Scoob, find it, buy it, play it. But anyone else, avoid it.
