"Animals + Mechanization = ZOIDS!"

Introduction:
Animal + Mechanization = giant fighting animal robots a.k.a. ZOIDS! In this game you control a mecha animal called a Zoid in a variety of game modes these are Mission Mode, vs. mode, Battle Mode & Zoids Fist. I’ll give a brief overview of the modes:

Mission Mode – In this mode you can choose to play as the Helic Republic or the Guylos Empire, basically once you’ve chosen the side to play as you’ll play through the story line of which ever factions. This is mainly based on the Chaotic Century television series.

Vs Mode - Not much to say about this mode really you can play against a human or the computer.

Battle Mode – This mode is based mainly on the New Century television series, because you play through it fighting different opponents to gain money (BP) in order to buy better Zoids or weapons for you current Zoids and ones that you buy.

Zoids Fist – Sort of like sumo because you are in a much smaller arena than you are in the other modes (so small in fact that you can see the edge of the arena) you fight opponents of your choosing (also with the Zoids of your choosing) whilst try not to get shot out of the arena.

Gameplay: 9
Having never play Zoids Versus 1 I can’t compare it to that but I’ll start on the controls. The controls are easy enough to pick up even if you don’t know Japanese they’re simple enough to pick up and really easy and quick to execute which is helpful, since there are moments where you need to be quick. The different modes in the game will keep you busy for ages and when you’re stuck on Battle or Mission mode there’s always Zoids Fist and vs. mode to keep you occupied. There are also plenty of secret Zoids to keep you unlock by completing the different modes. The one thing that lets the game down is that most of it is to easy there are some parts that you may struggle with but asking on the board can normally help you out (there were no FAQs at the time this was written). A thing to note is that the menu’s and weapon names are in English.

Story: 3/7/9
The reason I have given the story 3 separate score is because of the different people playing this game the 3 is for people who don’t speak any Japanese because even if you don’t get the gist of it, its fun to play. 7 is for people like me who know a bit of Japanese or have watched the show. The 9 is for people who speak fluent Japanese the story’s ok but not the best one in a game (I’ve got all these scores by asking people in the 3 different score brackets). In battle mode there isn’t really a story as such but you fight against pilots from the different timelines in the television show. In conclusion its fun to play the game because the story is not really that good but the game is simple which makes it fun all the same.

Graphics/Sound: 8
The graphics and sound is about even. The graphics aren’t top class but the Zoids are well rendered and accurate, there is also not any slow down even when there’s a lot of action on screen. The Zoids also move very smoothly but when you get knocked down some of your Zoid can disappear underground but comes straight back as soon as you get up again. The sound of the Zoids sound a lot like they do in the show, the background music is good and really fits in with the fights sadly there is no music from the TV shows.

Replay Value: 8
I’d say that the replay value is really good because even if you’ve unlocked all the Zoids in the game you can still have loads of fun with vs. mode. The play time of Battle & Mission mode is pretty short but like I said versus mode will keep you entertained.

Final Recommendation:
Like animals? Like robots? Like Zoids? If you answered yes to any of those questions then this game is for you. With so many Zoids to unlock and vs. mode there are plenty of things to keep you busy. This game is only out in Japanese speaking country’s at the moment if it’ll come to the UK or America or Europe is unknown by me, if you really want it type Zoids Versus 2 imports into google and it’ll come up.

I hope this review was helpful to you. Thank you for reading and thank you to GameFAQs for uploading this.
