DreamMix TV: World Fighters
Review by Sega Sage
"Not exactly the all star cast of Smash Bros, but who can resist fighting as Optimus Prime"
Dream Mix T.V. World Fighters is an interesting game. You play as a host of popular video game and toy characters and duke it out smash bros style on what seems to be a television show. This may be too far out for the gamer who wants realism, but those who are fans of Super Smash Bros will fall in love with this game.
Graphics:7/10
The graphics for the game are created via RenderWare. Which is not a bad thing. RenderWare brought us the stunning graphics of Burnout 2. But for this game, the graphics simply do their job. They convey the image of the fighters. Nothing to fantastic. Some stages look a bit bland. Such as Super Adventure Island, but other stages such as the Castlevania castle, do have a nice atmosphere. Some characters are not highly detailed such as Optimus Prime (Convoy) but others are rather well detailed such as Solid Snake. Overall, the graphics are pretty easy on the eyes.
Sound:8/10
Again this is another area that is nothing too special. But it deserves its score for one reason. It includes music from older games and the sound affects also share that factor. It is also cool hearing some of the voices of old fan favorite characters. The music for most stages however is rather easy to ignore.
Controls:8/10
The game borrows most of its control style from Smash Bros. Foward,Back,Up and Down in combination with the B button will yield moves Smash Bros style. This time though, the control scheme is a bit different. L and R are still your block buttons and it still produces a bubble shield. Y throws and X peforms your super attack (pretty much like a smash attack). You may mess up the first few times if you are a smash bros vet but otherwise it seems like familar grounds. It even uses the same aerial evade system by tapping L or R in the air. The control is pretty much flawless
Gameplay:9/10
The story mode is rather short. Only seven stages. And the mode offerings are also very slim. There is story mode, caravan mode (mini games) and versus mode. Though short, the story mode is really fun. Especially when you get to the multipalyer battles. And the mini games are unique to each characters abilities. Much like the Break The Target mode in Smash Bros. But the game can get old once you have unlocked everybody and complet caravan mode. The true saving grace is having friends to play with to keep things interesting
Overall:8/10
Only hardcore gamers or 80's children are going to seriously enjoy this game. It does bring about a sense of nostalgia to see classics like Simon Belmont and Optimus. And for children, the game has an ecclectic mix of fantasy characters. But those who want a serious brawl are better off staying away and perhaps picking up Naruto Ninja Taisen or Dead Or Alive 3. But those who can let loose will really have fun when matching up characters like Microman up against Bomberman. The only downside is the lack of modes. But the versus mode keeps the game fun.
