Red Faction II

Review by LobsterCactus

"Finally, a worthy opponent for Time Splitters 2."

Finding a tolerable FPS (First Person Shooter) on the Game Cube is like trying to find a lobster in a desert. For the slow, this means that it's very hard to find a good FPS on the GCN.

Graphics: 7/10- Nothing spectacular, looks like a shooter that was on the Dreamcast. Explosions are well done, and the blocks of concrete that burst from a wall after an explosion are well made. What's even better is that when an explosive hits an opponent, his body explodes into pieces. The lip sync is off by a long shot, but it seemed like they tried their best with it. Your environment doesn't quite change during the progress of this game, you go through a city that's been destroyed by the on going war, and you go into some office buildings to chase the antagonist bent on killing you and all nano-enhanced humans.

Game Play: 8/10- If you’ve played the original Red Faction, you might notice that this games geo-mod has been toned down quite a lot, but this aspect of the game won’t deter you from having fun. Also, you aren’t always on foot, on some levels you get to control the gunner on a space ship, and even shoot torpedoes from a submarine. Your first weapon in this game is a grenade launcher, this immediately starts the fun.

Sound: 10/10- The voices in this game are very well done, you can even hear some of your enemies cuss before they die. They'll be like ''SHHHHHIIii'' while falling off a ledge. The guns sound like the way they should, and the explosions are done perfectly. Also, the music fits perfectly with all the levels and multiplayer levels.

Story: 8/10- You are in a squad of six, chasing a military leader called Sopot. Sopot has transformed all nano-enhanced soldiers into something called the ''Processed.'' You and your squad are the only remaining nano-enhanced soldiers, and your mission is to take out Sopot.

Replayability: 6/10- Well, you could choose to beat this game on the harder difficulties (very hard to accomplish this task) to unlock some secrets. But there's also a great multiplayer with many modes, and you can even create your own bots. Not much else after that.

Rent or Buy- If you like shooters buy this game with no hesitation, if you are unsure, give it a rent (if you can find it). I had lots of fun with this game, and you probably will too. At first it may seem boring, but later on is where the fun starts.
