Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO
Review by Platinum Sonic 10
"A good game to add to your collection."
Street Fighter is a popular series that has been around for more than ten years. It gives a person a target to let out his or her aggression. This game is no different. It might not be one of the most popular fighting games, but it will satisfy the quench of fighting.
Story: N/A
Like most fighting games, this has no plot whatsoever.
Gameplay: 10/10
A great aspect of this game is its gameplay. The main objective of the game is to fight a set amount of opponents and get to a final boss. After you defeat the final boss, you will, if you're lucky, have a chance to enter your initials in the top ten scores page. I really like this part of the game because some of the moves are really hard to pull off. When you manage to execute a tough maneuver, you feel proud of your actions and you get to inflict an unbelievable amount of damage. You also have an options screen, which allows you to do various things to the gameplay, such as altering enemy difficulty, speeding everything up (or slowing it down), and even lowering the damage you inflict/intake.Plus, there are plenty of unlockables to obtain if you do just the right gameplay. It is almost impossible to complete the game with every single character in a twenty-four hour period, so you are guaranteed that this game will last for days and days. Most people don't buy this game for the one-player value, oh no, but because of the fact that they want to teach their best friend a lesson or two without breaking any vases. And, if you think your friend doesn't stand a chance against you, you can let him play in GC-Mode, which allows him to use the C-Stick (yellow stick at the bottom right of the controller) to pull off tricky maneuvers instead of inserting a certain amount of commands into the controller. Yes, this game has some awesome gameplay that is hardly matched for a fighting game. The great gameplay of this game goes smoothly with its not-so-great graphics.
Graphics: 7/10
This game does have some decent graphics, but all in all, they could have done better. The two-dimensional sprites are really good and detailed, and they handle well within a player's hands, so I have no argument there. What I find disappointing is the backgrounds. Although some of the backgrounds are well-done, others have room for improvement. Plus, lots of them are repetitive and boring, which slows down the gameplay of the fight. A fight should have a glorious, full-of-action background that keeps the player on his toes instead of sitting in the chair. Unfortunately, this game's graphics do not provide such an action. And, unfortunately, the game's graphics match its sound.
Sound: 7/10
The sound in this game is as impressive as the graphics are; that is, there is room for improvement. Some of the sounds are really well-done. The voices of the characters are very clear and understandable whenever they execute a move onto an opponent. Plus, whenever a character is about to use a special, you can tell which special it will be simply by the sound before the move. Hearing the sounds before the move is made is also a good way to think up a counter-attack. What disappoints me is the background music of most of the levels. Capcom really got lazy when making these, because they could have been better. There's nothing wrong with the way it plays, it's just that the music doesn't seem too eventful. All I can say is that the makers of this game could have done better.
To rent...or to buy...that is the question.
I would definitely recommend that anybody who has the slightest interest in this game to rent the game first. You might regret buying this game unless you are a hardcore Street Fighter/SNK fan. But if you are a hardcore fan, I suggest that you buy this game, because it will be a great addition to your collection.
