The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition
Review by Arek
"What a Collection"
The Zelda Collectors Edition comes up short of being a must own. Slowdown on Zelda 1 when 5 or 6 enemies are on the screen sure this was acceptable on the 8-bit nes but not on co-processing power of 64/32 bit processors. It's nostalgic yes. Nintendo could of revamped the graphics of Zelda 1 a little bit I mean they re-did the Mario games in the Mario Collection released for the Super Nintendo I guess Zelda just wasn't up there to be revamped. Many People want the Zelda collector's edition for Majora's Mask. This game is very fun yet due to how it's emulated has quyite a few problems due to Nintendo rushing the Disc for the Holiday season. Now for a review of each individual game.
The Legend of Zelda
Story: Gannon stole the Triforce of Power and kidnapped the princess Zelda, to protect the Trifroce of Wisdom Zelda broke it into 8 pieces and sent her nursemaid Impa out to find someone strong enough to retrieve the 8 triforce pices and to infilitrate Gannon's lair. Impa was attacked by Moblins when a yopung lad came and scared them off this man's name was Link. 7/10
Gameplay: Very nice top-scrolling gameplay I've always loved the gameplay in Zelda games the controls are very precise. 10/10
Graphics: The graphics were revolutionary when this was released for the NES in 1987. They overall today are still nice graphics so I give them a 7/10 by todays standards remember graphics aren't everything.
Characters: Zelda pushes over 46 unique characters this was really pushing it for an NES game only a few later RPG's boasted more characters, but they were more free drawn than sprites.
Overall: 8/10
Zelda II:
Zelda II was revolutionary for it's time it combined mario style platforming with dragon warrior type magic to create a very nice hybrid game. In this year another hybrid game was released in Castlevania 2: Simons Quest. This was the year where sequels strayed far from the originals path.
Story: Upon his 16th birthday a strane mark appeas on Link's left hand he goes and sees Impa and she tells him h is destined to wake the sleeping princess Zelda so she takes him to a hidden room in North Castle. Where Zelda lays asleep she hands him 6 crystals to place in the 6 palaces the king of hyrule created as a test of courage for one to break the barrier around the great palace which holds the Triforce #3. 7/10
Gameplay: Very unique gameplay Shigeru Miyamoto knew what he was doing here creating a very unique game which to this day I don't think I've seen any game match it's uniqueness. Zelda 2 is one part platformer one part rpg one part adventure one part Zelda. Zelda II was a defining game in the gameplay department to bad to this very day this game is shunned upon as being too different well Zelda II was a great game and I applaud Mr. Miyamoto for his vision of a great game. 10/10
Overall: 7/10
Ocarina of Time:
Simply an amazing game released for the N64 originally and later for the Gamecube as a bonus for Windwaker this was again a revolutionary game in the industry of gaming before Z/L-Targetting no one had done a good action/adventure game in 3-D. Zelda Ocarina of Time was the forefather of 3-D Action games. The breakthrough in technology again came from the vision of Miyamoto and this time the masses loved his innovations.
10/10
Majora's Mask:
A sidestory to the Zelda Series, this takes palce immediately after OoT. Link arrives in a strange world of the Skull Kid takes Epona. When Link arrives Skullkid transforms him into a Deku Scrub. While in Deku Scub form Link finds out the Moon on Termina is falling down in 72 hours. Great Story
Gameplay: Same as OoT's which was excellent.
I myself rate Majora's Mask as one of the most unique Zelda games the Mask play a very improtant role never can one forget becoming a Goron and Zora and even the Deku Scrub. This adds new gameplay to Majora's Mask will you know when to use the right mask. Good luck with some of the puzzles.
I give Majora's Mask a 10/10
Overall I give this disk a 7/10 as Nintendo's lack of retrospective section and tacking on a demo of Wind Waker instead of palcing Link's Awakening on the disc. Mainly due to the fact Nintendo coul;d of did a few interviews on the retrospective they could of did much like what Midway did with the Mortal Kombat retrospective on Deadly Alliance.
a Nice collection of Games anyways to keep the new gamecube owner content for awhile.
