Resident Evil Code: Veronica X

Review by Phyre

"Great game, what more can I say?"

To start off, I would love to give this game a 10/10, but I just can't. Not with all the games with better graphics out there. In 2002, Resident Evil was released (the remake) for the GCN (Nintendo Gamecube). The REmake game had amazing realistic graphics. Each cut-scene made you feel like you were watching a movie. Unfortunately, they did not remake this game. This game has somewhat outdated graphics, and some scenes are sketchy.

Graphics- 6/10
Even though the graphics are amazing, they just don't live up to today's standards. I know that they just ported the game until we wait for RE4 to come out, but they could have updated it...along with all the others...to make it worth playing over and over again. (I would rather have amazing graphics than RE4 right away...).

Gameplay- 8/10
Great gameplay, as usual. Unfortunately, the gameplay does tend to get a little boring at times, and could use a few new commands, such as being able to dodge attacks...maybe even defense items (hint hint...REmake...)

Sound- 8/10
What more can I say about the sound...super scary when it needs to be, super scary the rest of the time. The music is standard Resident Evil music. Save rooms, monster attacks, etc... Although, there are some times where the music is outstanding (opening movie, some FMVs...). Either way, the music is exactly the way it needs to be for the game. Good they stuck with classic RE music.

Controls- 10/10
Great controls as always. No improvements to be made.

Story- 8/10
Good story, bad graphics displaying the story. The story will get confusing at times, but that is just Resident Evil games like to make it...very very confusing, clearing a bit up at the end, making it even more confusing after the game has ended.

Overall- 8/10
Great game overall, I would have loved to give this a 10/10, but I just can't- it has it's flaws here and there.

Rent or buy?
Hardcore RE fans MUST buy this game, it has not yet been released in North America with this content. This game deserves a rent no matter what, so get out there and rent it if you haven't already!

Conclusion
This game continues the great series of Resident Evil, being able to play as the Redfields and another character...most unfortunately. Character design is fairly good, except for the arms...they should just make them all wear long sleeves to make up for their lack of detail. You'll enjoy some characters in the game...others will just plain annoy you. Get playing!
