Pokemon Channel

Review by Vadertech

"Once you delve deep you see it..."

I got this game for Christmas from my younger brother. Now me being a 20 year old guy who's a little too obsessed with Pokemon than he should be, I really looked formward to playing this game. After a month of play and one FAQ, I'm one happy camper.

Price: 9/10
The first aspect of the game was its low price of 29.99 when introduced onto the market. This immediately made me interested.

Graphics: 8/10
Now the graphics don't really push the limits of the Gamecube past the usual. They are typical, graphics as expected but the sense of realism and ''you are there'' is great. I really got ''into'' the game I guess you could say. The actual Pokemon animations seemed to be taken from the N64 Stadium games and touched up a bit. The anime is very high quality DVD picture however. A nice touch.

Sound:6/10
Now the sound was annoying, even I have to admit. The pokemon voices were all very high pitched and a few, including my favorite Raichu, sounded distorted from their TV counterparts. The music on the other hand was quite soothing and added to the atmosphere of the game. Very modern and a plus indeed.

Story:10/10
Now who else would have thought of a game about watching TV? Its ingenious and also very entertaining. The actual story of the game seemed almost nonexistent other than reporting on new channels each day. Overall a great game concept though.

Gameplay:9/10
I can say that I absolutely dreaded Hey You Pikachu, a disgrace to N64 owners everywhere. This game has been called the sequel to HYP but I found many aspects better.

Good points:
Shopping Channel
Run on Real time (I love this part)
Weather changes
Finding all the Pokemon (took me a month)
Gameshow Channels/Winning Money

Bad Points:
Caring for Pikachu (Could have been left out)
Pokemon questions sometimes too easy, but then again I am a pokemon expert...
A few channels useless in actual gameplay (Fortune, exercise)
Smeargle Paint not always easy to use/ paint well with

Overall: 8/10
Thus, this game was very fun to play and get into every day and at every time of day. The Real time and weather changes effects were excellent and the Nice Cards were challenging to collect. In fact I still don't have every one myself.

Suggestion: If you really love Pokemon then be sure to give this game a try. If you are unsure, you could always rent it first then buy it if you really like it.

Till next time, may the gamecube continue to pump out quality titles.

Also, check out my FAQ for the game if UR stuck. It could really help you find the last of the Pokemon...
