Rayman Arena
Review by CKY2KWC
"Not a bad game at all!"
I'm doing this review in school, how fun! I got into this game because, duh, its Rayman, and everything Rayman is cool. I expected something like a Mario Party-esque title. I was obviously wrong, but not dissappointed. Bring on the review!!! LUCASS!!
Graphics-8/10
The graphics in this game are not a work of art to be sure, but are nice nontheless. The ''Rayman style'' is used to full effect here, and that is what I am mostly basing this section of the review on. The ''Rayman style'' I mentioned before basically consists of semi-rough polygons and pastel-ish colors. While they wont blow you away, it should be said that the game keeps a very stable framerate, which is something previous Rayman games have had trouble with. Also, there are many familiar characters from Rayman 2 which can make for a great game experience. Guh Guh
Sound/Music-9/10
In my opinion, Rayman music is hit or miss. This title is definently a hit. While some music is pretty generic, there are a nice handful of tunes that fit the Rayman universe very nicely. The sound effects, however, are not as great. They are mediocre, but cartoony which is good. The sound of Rayman flinging his fists can get annoying and since this is the sound you will hear through most of the game, this should have ben improved. Although it is a small gripe, I would have liked to have seen it fixed. Gihh Guh
Value-7/10
There is certainly alot of value here, but unfortunately, there is a con for every pro. Pro-Half the characters are unlockable and this adds depth to the title. Con-Most are unlocked too easily and can be done in the first 10 minutes of the game. Pro-The graphics are lush and beautifully executed. Con-The title is bogged with unnecessarially long loading times for such small enviornments. Pro-A targeting system is good for the game and helps you keep track of your target during battle. Con-This doesnt really solve the problem of the unnecessarially wonky camera. Pro-The controls and controller are perfect and this title fits best on Gamecube. Con-Well, there is no real con to this, and if you get any version of this game, make it Gamecube.
Buy/Rent
If you have the money (and who doesnt have 10 bucks?) and love rayman, then definently buy this. If not, rent it so you and your friends can have a great party game to play.
