Resident Evil Code: Veronica X
Review by outlawdarkwolf
"The perfect game to tide you over till RE4"
When I heard that Capcom was going to port Code Veronica over too the Gamecube I was excited to say the least. I finally bought the game and am here to give you my rundown on how the game plays. I'm breakin this down into graphics, sound, controls, story/gameplay and Shelf Life.
Graphics:Seeing as this is a straight port from Ps2 the graphics are on par with it. Not many changes in the graphics were made. As for whats there, the face textures are decent and the animation is tight. Overall,I would say that its average for a Gamecube game these days. I'll give the graphics a solid 6/10.
Sound:Resident Evil has always been known for it's cheezy voice acting. However in this installment they are making improvements. No more ''Jill sandwiches here'' ^_^. As for the background music it ranges from quiet ballads in the background keeping the tension alive during non-combat. Whenever a enemy un-suspectingly pops out of his vile hole the music changes accordingly. One time this did catch even me a seasoned survial horror vet off guard. As for sound effects and the such there are the regular run of the mill gunshots, screams, and the ever familiar trudging of the zombies through the hallways. I will give the sound a 6/10.
Gameplay: The gameplay is true to Re style. Making you run after random keys and emblems in order to unlock doors. As well as a miriad of other tasks. Enemies block your way as you go along. One thing i noticed in this game is that at the begining of the game it focuses on ammo conservation making the player think twice if they want to shoot or run.
I found this game slightly challenging and at one point was almost completely stuck. I would say that a seasoned RE vet would breeze through this in no time. However a starter should beware since this installment has no ''easy'' mode you jump right into the normal setting. Although its not very innovative in its gameplay it sticks true to the RE series and i give it a 8/10 for that.
Control: Now if your a player of the original Resident Evil or one of it's sequels for the Playstation your wired for a Dual analog control setup. I was at first very skeptical as to if Nintendo could give a reliable control scheme and make it comfy to use as well. Well the people at Capcom and Nintendo did a good job. As in my own opinion this series of games fits the Gamecube controller well. However it may take newbies or vets to the Playstation series to get used to it. however after you get a control setup you like you'll be rolling' zombie heads in no time. The only one dislike about the whole controll setup on the gamecube and Resident Evil series is no customizable controls. They have one to three pre-made control schemes. Which are fine and dandy but it would be nice to customize them as well. Overall the Resident Evil series has adapted well to the gamecube controller. I will give it a 8/10/
Shelf Life:Will you Buy this or rent it? Play it for long or will it be forgotten? This is the part where it comes down to personal preference. It does have a Battle Mode for unlocking. As well as the time lock cheats as well. I would say that this has enough playability for 2-4 runs before it gets stale. After that you might want to move on.
I'll give it a 7/10 for Shelf life. And overall I give RE:CVX a hefty 8/10
