Pokemon Channel

Review by Link San

"Please, no more Pokemon"

Treu Nintendo fans might remember the 'Hey you Pikachu' game that appeared on the Nintendo 64. Through a mic you could talk to Pikachu as though it were a was a real pet. It didn't grow out to be a really big succes but Pokemon Channel still feels a lot like a sequel to the N64 game.

Professor Oak is busy starting up a new tv station suited for people and pokemon. To learn more about the taste of the audience you are the test audience. You'll see eveything from the first-person view. To me the first impresions weren't good, first of all you can barely move, the screen quality is minimal and you're immediately forced to watch a smal anime cartoon, starring the ever so cut Pichu Bros. Even though the cartoon is fun to watch, a videogame is supposed to be interactive. After 10 minutes the cartoon ends and then its a completely different story.

Shortly after the cartoon ends a wild Pikachu comes running into your house and then the fun part begins, interaction with Pikachu. On the tv professor Oak gave you, you can choose multiple channels and Pikachu is more than willing to participate in a fitness session of the Smoochums. Pikachu will also take over things he sees on tv. Within a few days Pikachu begins to sing along with the songs he hears on the tv and Pikachu develops a special interest for certain channels. Other channels on the tv have Psyduck doing the pokemon news with reporter Mewtwo who is always on the place of the subject, a shopping channel withwith Squirtle. Its all very simple that is being offerd in Pokemon Channel but somehow you'll still be charmed of the playfull possiblities. You an also go outside to play games with Pikachu r let Pikachu talk to other pokemon. What is annoying is that a lot of times Pikachu insists on going inside to watch tv when you would much rather go outside. There are a lot of things you can buy from the shooping channel, for example, think of the many pokemon dolls or games for your virtual Pokemon-mini.

Pokemon Channel is a game that you most likely won't be playing for hours and hours at a time. Its obvious that Pokemon Channel is for the younger gamers. But none the less I think that the older gamers will also enjoy this game. But when you've seen all the channels, the game gets very boring and the things that you can unlock probably won't mean that much to you.
