"A great game that does not show full potential..."

Capcom Vs. SNK 2 is a great game for the arcade. It mimics the Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 style except it still has that old-school team fighting that you could only find in KOF games. For GC, this game does not show its full potential but is none the less a good game.

Gameplay-7/10
This game has the traditional arcade, versus, and training mode of every fighting game, but it also has a Boss Mode, Survival Mode, Color Edit, and Groove Edit. The game also has a Groove Point system, which goes up with Special Finishes and multi-hit combos. Boss Mode is a large disappointment. Besides being almost impossible to beat, the ability to use special moves is restrained. All one needs to do is a jumping strong punch or kick and they can get through the first stages with no problem. However, when you fight Shin Akuma or Ultimate Rugal, you are doomed. No matter what you do, these battles are crazy hard. One punch will take a chunk of life away. The versus mode is great though. You have a large selection of characters plus quite a few "Isms" to choose from. When you first start playing the game, it might seen extremely hard, but when you get used to the game's AI, it becomes extremely easy, unless you jack up the difficulty.

Controls-6/10
Yeah they are that bad. This is a great game for Arcade, but lacking on GC. One of the main reasons is the CONTROLS. The GC controller is not meant for fast paced fighting games like Capom Vs. SNK 2. The placement of the buttons make it harder to execute what you want. The double rotation super just makes it worse. Double Full and Half Circles are practically impossible. The game does make up a little however. You can choose from AC-ISM or GC-ISM. GC-ISM is a special "Easy Mode" which you probably have seen in games like Marvel Vs. Capcom. In this mode, you simply tap the yellow C-Stick in a direction to execute a special or even a super. This is extremely helpful sometimes. However, there is yet another problem. Some characters have quite a lot of moves. Therefore, you have to angle the C-Stick in a specific direction which can get rather tricky. Never the less, you can stick to AC-ISM. I found that changing the controls helps greatly. Ite helps you conform to a style that fits you better.

Graphics/Sound-8/10
Of course, this game has great graphics and sound. There are a few things that disappoint me though. First of all, I don't really like the graphics for supers. Its not that they don't look good. Its the fact that they are rather meager compared to humongous beams in Marvel Vs. Capcom. This is more of a personal preference. The sound is awesome. A lot of characters means a variety of sounds that add to the feel of the game. The backgrounds are usually constantly moving and are in a variety of places. The beginning and finishing stance of the characters are also cool and add a nice touch.

Replayability-8/10
Being a fighting game, it has great replayability. However, the lack of things to do is problem. Usually in a fighting game you can buy trophies or characters or play a mini game or something. Well in Capcom Vs. SNK 2, you can color edit or unlock a grand total of...... 2 characters. The game does offer a Boss Mode and Survival Mode, which is cool. Stick to this game if you have a friend to play with. You will definitely play Versus for a while.

Overall-7/10
This game receives a decent 7 out of 10. I like the idea, but this game is out of place on a GC. However, it is still a solid fightning game and is a must for any KOF fan out there. It still deserves a bit of your time. I enjoy this game and I'm sure you will too. I hope this review has been helpful. Thank you.
