Sonic Mega Collection
Review by Gohanland
"-The- Collection."
I'm here to review Sonic Mega Collection for the Nintendo Gamecube. This game is now a Nintendo "Player's Choice" game, so it has a retail value of $19.99 brand new. This to me, highly increases the reason of why you should buy this game. Here's my other reason you should buy it, it's basically every fun and cool Sonic game from the Sega Genesis put onto one Gamecube disc. Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, Sonic & Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and few other games that you have to unlock, which make this collection even better in my eyes. I don't know about you people, but I had fun playing Sonic games for the Genesis when I was younger, so when I saw this, I had to buy it as I really like Sonic games. Now, let's move onto the overall ratings for the game.
The Graphics: 10/10
They're basically a direct port of their Genesis versions of each game. With that said, for each game as they were on their respective consoles, the graphics were very nice. Mostly clean cut character designs, and very lush, shiny, and pretty level graphics, the Sonic games were standouts to a lot of their competitors. Even 10+ years later, I still like how the graphics look for each game.
The Music: 10/10
I love the music to Sonic games, most of the songs fit perfectly with each level that the respective music plays on. Like Casino Night in Sonic 2, and Carnival Night in Sonic 3, I love those two songs. The music is just so fun and or upbeat for every part of the game, it makes you want to play longer.
Controls: 9/10
The controls as the same simple and non-complex setup as they were on their former consoles. The Gamecube controller has more buttons than the Genesis controller did, so some buttons on the Gamecube controller do the same action when pressed. It's not very complex as I said above. Sometimes the controller could get tricky and you could lose your thought process and press the wrong button, however. But that'll rarely ever happen. Like I said, nine out of ten for the controllers.
Plot/Story: 9/10
For the Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 games, that's one of the most amazing storylines ever conceived. For the other games, there's a storyline, but they're not as good as those 3 Sonic games. But the concept is the same for what you have to do in basically all of that games, and that is get the Chaos Emeralds, and defeat Dr. Eggman/Robotnik and all of his evil creations and henchmen. Overall though, the storyline is quite compelling and deep. Gotta give it up for how creative they were back then, and still are today. Sonic Team, you guys are quite creative.
Extras: 10/10
They added a ton of Sonic Comics to the collection, and you can view them in their respective sections of the game. They also put in every game's instruction manual from their old consoles, which is also nice and neat to look at. They also threw in some pictures, which are nice, and they also put ina few movies, such as the history of Sonic, which is a very cool movie to watch. The extras in this game are grand. Ten out of ten.
Unlockables: 10/10
You can unlock some Sega and Sonic games that I won't mention in this review, but they are some of the best versions of Sonic and Sega games, ever. Amazing unlockables. Sonic Team got it down with these.
Buy or Rent:For those of you that don't like Sonic too much, rent it, or I'll eat your face. For everyone else, this game is now a Nintendo "Player's Choice" game and is priced at $19.99, which makes it way more than cheap to buy for any Sonic fan with a Gamecube and 20 bucks. I recommend buying this game. Well, this is all I have to say, so I'm out.
