Cel Damage
Review by Casanova973
"Probably best fun I've ever had on a Gamecube!"
Seriously, when my friend mentioned "Cel Damage" to me, I had no idea what it was. I, myself do not own a Gamecube, but I have owned one before, and I had this game. Let me tell you that this game isn't very well known at all. Whenever I ask someone "dude, have you played Cel Damage?", they can never answer because they've never played, or even heard of this game.
I honestly wasn't impressed when I first got the drift of the game. I loved games like this for other consoles, such as Mario Kart (a classic for the N64). But, this game is very different in different ways, but still just as good. It is slightly different to other cartoon-car games because you can't race, you can only battle with other fictional characters. On with the review!
Graphics: 9/10
Pretty damn good. The graphics are cartoon style. They are hand drawn and made into different animations. The cartoons are excellent and extremely detailed, and the animations are brilliant. I can't really complain about the graphics. If this game was made in 3-D with normal Gamecube graphics, I can assure you that the graphics would suck. Trust me, if you were chasing after an angry bull with an axe in your hands in 3-D, it wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable as it would in 2-D. I have to say that the worst bit of the graphics is the surroundings, and even they are quite good. They are 2-D, but paper cut-out trees don't impress me as much as cartoon beavers. I will give the graphics a 9/10
Gameplay: 9/10
The objective of the game is to pick up weapons around the arena and kill the other contestants. Killing other characters will earn you points, and getting killed will lose you points. Such a simple idea, but yet such a good feature. I never imagined it would be as good as it is, but the graphics helped, the graphics helped a lot. You can pick up different types of weapons in the game, from Melee weapons, to machine-guns, and even to grenade launchers! The gameplay in the vehicles are quite good, also. They handle pretty well and the shooting-while-in-vehicle animations are excellent. I think the graphics are almost perfect. Other than the glitches, the graphics are perfect.
Story:
Now, don't blame me for explaining the story wrong, because I really have no idea what to say. Erm.... well..... there isn't really a story to this game. Basically, all it is is chasing or being chased by angry animals with lethal weapons. I can't really add anything else.
Replay Value: Good
This isn't really a story-based game so the game depends on its replay value. The replay value is excellent. You can play for endless hours without getting bored. There are many different settings in the game, different vehicles, different characters and many different modes. There's a hell load of things you can do after 100% completion. Multi-player is usually the best option if you have a friend around. It is just as good as single player but with a few restrictions.
Rent or Buy?
Hhmmmmmm...... it's quite a tough decision to make. Seriously, this game is so fun, it could last you 6 months non-stop. But if you just want to concentrate on 100% then you may want to rent it for a while. The game isn't very long in itself but it sure has a LOT of extras. Thank you for your time.
